Chapter 35:
Chapter 35:
Everyone used to believe that Jiang Jiandang was a kind and generous man. But now, people saw him in a completely different light.
One day, as Jiang Jiandang passed by his office, he noticed the principal and other senior staff gathered inside. The principal gave him a helpless look.
“Mr. Jiang,” the principal began, “there have been countless complaints from the school community saying that you’re no longer fit to be a teacher. Our school is under immense pressure, and frankly, what you’ve done is unacceptable. It’s best if you take some time off and wait for this to blow over. After that, we’ll consider bringing you back.”
“Principal! I’ve been a teacher here for 20 years. I’m one of the oldest employees. You can’t fire me just because of my personal issues with my ex-wife!” Jiang Jiandang protested.
The principal sighed. “Old Jiang, the situation has caused too much negative attention. The school has no choice but to act. Take a temporary leave and let things cool down.”
Deep down, the principal despised Jiang Jiandang as well. Still, Jiang had been with the school for decades, and it didn’t seem entirely right to fire him over this. But with the flood of daily complaints from parents, the school was left with no choice.
“Take time off?” Jiang Jiandang asked cautiously, “Principal, how long before I can come back to work?”
He realized now that he had no room to negotiate. Even though he didn’t want to leave, he knew he couldn’t fight the tide. It was better to take the school’s advice and bide his time until things settled down.
“Alright, but can I at least stay on unpaid leave?” he asked. “Principal, I’m willing to cooperate with the school, but I hope you’ll let me stay on as a teacher after two months!”
The principal hesitated, clearly reluctant, but in the end, he agreed. “Fine.”
…
Jiang Jiandang was officially suspended without pay.
When the school announced the news, many people were still unhappy with the decision. But most believed that as long as they continued to object, the school wouldn’t dare let Old Jiang return to work.
Without his salary, Jiang Jiandang’s life quickly became difficult. When he checked his bank account, he realized he had less than 4000 yuan left. Now, with no income, he had no way to maintain his previous lifestyle or help others.
He Minglang’s situation also deteriorated. They had once hoped that, after the show aired, someone would donate bone marrow, and they could raise enough money for his surgery. But now that everyone knew the truth about what He Minglang and Jiang Jiandang had done, public outrage was overwhelming.
Not only was no one willing to donate or raise funds for He Minglang, but he also faced public ridicule every time he walked down the street. People pointed fingers at him, whispered behind his back, and openly looked at him with disdain.
Some didn’t even bother to lower their voices: “Tsk, that’s the orphan who leeched off his father. Can you believe it? A father who sells his house to help someone else’s kid while his own son suffers? What kind of father does that? He deserves whatever comes to him!”
“Such a young kid, yet already so manipulative.”
“Oh, you don’t know the half of it. Kids from orphanages are often clever, but he’s taken it to a whole new level.”
In the past, people looked at He Minglang with affection, even admiration. But now, they stared at him the same way they used to look at Jiang Feng—with disgust. Ever since the show, everything had changed.
Day by day, He Minglang grew more and more weary, his once bright demeanor fading under the weight of his shame and the constant judgment of those around him.
