As Homelander In Multiverse

Chapter 147: Chapter 142: What Does Your Promise Have to Do With Me?

The witch, now with her heart returned and her powers restored, raised her hands and inspected them carefully.

In the blink of an eye, she vanished from the bathroom and reappeared in a different room. Her movements were deliberate as she approached a cabinet, her gaze settling on a ceramic doll resting on the shelf.

Picking up the doll, her figure flickered again, this time appearing on a bustling street.

Her sudden arrival startled the passersby, who were already wary of her peculiar attire. Most instinctively avoided her, stepping aside or hurrying away.

With a casual demeanor, the witch targeted a random pedestrian and appeared before him, startling him further. Without hesitation, she twisted open the ceramic doll.

A swirl of black smoke laced with glowing embers erupted from the doll, streaming into the man's nose and mouth. The man instinctively clutched his face, coughing and gasping in confusion.

As the smoke settled inside him, his eyes glowed faintly, and his expression turned vacant. It was as if his soul was no longer entirely his own.

The witch spoke in an ancient tongue, her voice filled with eerie tenderness.

"Brother, can you hear my voice?"

"I have set you free."

The pedestrian, now speaking with an archaic resonance, responded, "Where are we?"

"The same world," the witch replied, gently caressing his face. "Only, we're centuries too late."

"What has happened here?" he asked, his gaze wandering as if another consciousness within him was observing this unfamiliar era.

"Humans have turned against us," the witch said, pressing a hand to her chest. "Once, they revered us."

"We were their gods," he murmured softly, as if reliving a distant memory.

"Now, they worship machines," she continued, her voice tinged with contempt. "But I will create a machine that will destroy them."

"Brother, will you help me?" she pleaded, taking a cautious step back.

The man suddenly collapsed, his breathing ceasing entirely.

The bystanders who had witnessed the eerie black smoke earlier were paralyzed with fear. Not a single one dared to approach.

Suddenly, something resembling glowing orange tendrils burst out of the man's body. These tendrils snatched a nearby pedestrian, pulling them close to the man's lifeless form.

"What on earth is happening?!"

"Run! Get away from here!"

"Mommy, I'm scared!"

"Call the police! Dial 911!"

Panic erupted as the tendrils reached out further, grabbing more pedestrians and drawing them in. Before long, several people were entangled, their bodies melding together in a grotesque fusion.

From this writhing mass, a pitch-black arm adorned with orange streaks extended outward. The mass continued to shift and transform until it formed a towering figure over two meters tall.

The entity was a small giant, its body dark as coal and marked with fiery orange patterns. Its attire bore a resemblance to the witch's.

The giant stood tall, scanning its surroundings. It raised a hand toward a nearby building, and from its palm emerged glowing tendrils that seemed to disassemble anything they touched. The structure's edges began crystallizing into a strange, unearthly material.

The witch's brother, a powerful sorcerer from ancient times, unleashed his black tendrils at random. Anything they touched—cars, streetlights, buildings, or humans—was instantly reduced to nothingness.

Chaos consumed the street.

From above, Azu stood in the night sky, observing the entire scene with no intention of intervening. In fact, if anyone tried to stop the witch and her brother, Azu felt inclined to help them instead.

With his experience in two multiverse events, he knew that altering key events significantly could yield greater rewards.

In the movie, the witch and her brother built some inexplicable machine. Before it could fully demonstrate its power, the brother perished in a suicidal attack against the fire demon. As for the witch, she met an anticlimactic end—tricked by Harley Quinn into lowering her guard, only to have her heart carved out.

The machine, fueled by black magic, had merely begun to destroy satellites, towers, and aircraft carriers when the witch was defeated.

However, in this universe, the Suicide Squad that took her down had disbanded after Amanda Waller's death. The villains had scattered, leaving no one to stand against the siblings.

That left Batman, Wonder Woman, and the wild card: Clark.

Azu suspected the first two would show up, but as for Superman? That was uncertain. Not that it mattered—Azu had faced him before. Regardless of how strong Clark might become in the future, he wasn't a threat now.

Meanwhile, the witch unleashed her magic, sending a beam of light into the sky. The light created a gravitational pull, drawing objects upward and into the beam, gradually forming the silhouette of an apocalyptic machine.

The brother began tossing cars into the sky, where they joined the beam and became materials for the machine.

Terrified passengers leapt out of vehicles, some lucky enough to escape with minor injuries, while others suffered broken bones upon landing.

Screams and panic filled the streets.

Police cars soon arrived, their sirens blaring. This drew the brother's attention. He approached the vehicles, raising a hand. A circular magical array appeared in his palm, and tendrils shot out, ensnaring the police cars. With little effort, he hurled them into the beam, adding them to the machine.

The witch, maintaining the beam of magic, unleashed another spell. Black tendrils streaked with blue light spread across the area, targeting pedestrians. These tendrils lifted people into the air, enveloping them in glowing rings. Moments later, the humans convulsed and transformed into grotesque monsters covered in black pustules.

These were the witch's soldiers, created far more efficiently than in the movie, where she had to kiss each victim to transform them.

Azu had mocked this inefficiency while watching the film, one of its many flaws. Apart from Harley Quinn's allure, the rest of the movie had been a disaster, with poorly written characters and inexplicable decisions.

At least in this multiverse, the characters were less nonsensical.

As Midway City descended into chaos, far away in Metropolis, Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince stood outside an apartment building.

A red glow briefly flashed in one of the windows above.

The two exchanged a glance.

Bruce explained, "This is the home of Silas Stone, a biotechnology scientist specializing in regenerative cellular research. His wife, Eleanor, was in the same field. Recently, she and their son were in a car accident. She died on the spot, and their son should have as well."

"But it seems Silas used the Mother Box to save him," Diana said, nodding.

"If it can bring Victor back," she added, "it might revive Lois."

Before they could act further, they overheard pedestrians talking about the events in Midway City.

"Did you see the news? Monsters appeared, along with some giant magical machine."

"They've evacuated the city, but it's still chaos over there."

Bruce quickly pulled out his phone, bringing up a live broadcast of Midway City.

The screen showed a beam of light piercing the sky, surrounded by a vortex pulling debris into its core. A black giant adorned with glowing orange markings appeared, tossing tanks into the beam.

"I think only one of us needs to see Silas," Bruce said.

"I'll head to Midway City," Diana replied without hesitation.

As she departed, Bruce turned toward Silas Stone's apartment. His work with the Mother Box might hold the key to stopping this madness.
