As Homelander In Multiverse

Chapter 148: Chapter 142.1: What Does Your Promise Have to Do With Me?

Midway City.

The evacuation was mostly complete, with civilians cleared from the affected zones. At least, no innocents remained in the streets where chaos brewed.

With this assurance, the military moved in, their vehicles rumbling as they advanced into the city streets.

As they approached the enemy's occupied zone, the commanding officer issued the order: "Commence shelling."

Tanks lined up, their barrels aimed at the occupied area. A barrage of artillery fire erupted, hundreds of shells raining down in a deafening assault. Explosions rippled through the enemy territory, shaking the ground and reducing the zone to a chaotic wasteland.

But as the smoke began to clear, a wave of grotesque figures emerged from the rubble.

They were the "Fallen Warriors," transformed by the Witch's dark magic. These abominations were no ordinary soldiers. Among them were toothless elderly men and women well into their eighties, alongside prime-aged men and even the soldiers who had led the first wave of attacks against the Witch's forces.

Stripped of their humanity, they were unfeeling and fearless, charging the human troops without hesitation.

Behind the horde loomed a towering giant with ebony skin marked by glowing patterns—the Witch's brother.

He unleashed tendrils of otherworldly energy from his body, tentacles that slithered and whipped through the battlefield, destroying tanks and scattering soldiers in their wake.

The clash turned the entire street into an inferno. Surrounding buildings crumbled under the relentless destruction, leaving behind only ruins and debris.

Vehicles lay overturned across the streets, but it didn't take long before they, too, were sucked into the vortex forming above—the "Doomsday Machine."

As the battle intensified and the enemy forces pressed forward relentlessly, the ground commander grabbed his radio, shouting, "Where are the jets?!"

"We need air support now!"

Almost immediately, the sky roared as two fighter jets streaked into the city, unleashing their 105mm cannons on the enemy below.

Tatatatatata!

Columns of smoke erupted from the street as the jets fired relentlessly, tearing through the Fallen Warriors and even exposing the Witch's brother to their assault.

But just as the jets made another pass, thick tendrils of shadow shot up from the smoke below, ensnaring one of the jets midair. The tentacle whipped the aircraft around before hurling it straight into the vortex of the Doomsday Machine.

The Witch's brother, now revealed to be the source of the tendrils, targeted the second jet. Black tendrils surged upward once more, reaching for the aircraft—

When suddenly, a shadow zipped through the night sky, severing the tendrils in one swift motion.

The dark figure descended rapidly, skidding across the war-torn street for hundreds of meters before coming to a stop.

Wonder Woman had arrived.

Clad in her iconic armor, with a shield in one hand and the Godkiller Sword in the other, she exuded a commanding presence. Her sharp gaze locked onto the Witch's brother in the distance, and with a powerful shout, she launched herself forward.

Her muscular legs dug into the ground, leaving a crater in her wake as she shot off like a cannonball.

The world blurred around her as she closed the gap. The Witch's brother loomed larger in her vision. When she reached him, her shield struck first.

BOOM!

The impact sent shockwaves rippling outward, and the dark giant was knocked off his feet, crashing to the ground in a heap.

But he wasn't down for long. With inhuman speed, he rose, thrusting his palms forward to summon a glowing black magic circle. From it, countless tendrils slithered out, darting toward Wonder Woman.

She didn't flinch. Turning, she charged head-on, her Godkiller Sword slicing through the shadowy appendages with precision.

When she closed the distance, her sword arced upward, delivering a powerful slash that launched the giant into the air before slamming him back down with a thunderous crash.

The Witch's brother hit the ground hard, his massive body twitching as he struggled to rise.

Seizing the opportunity, Wonder Woman raised her arms, preparing to activate her Bracelets of Submission to unleash a devastating shockwave.

But before she could act, glowing crimson ribbons, etched with mysterious runes, coiled around her right arm.

With a sharp yank, the ribbons pulled her backward.

Turning, Wonder Woman found herself pressed against a familiar, unyielding chest.

It was Homelander.

A faint smile tugged at his lips as he greeted her, "Good evening, Miss Prince."

Wonder Woman raised her bound arm. "Mr. John, care to explain what this is about? And don't you think you're standing a bit... too close?"

Homelander smirked. "If you don't mind, we could stand even closer."

As he spoke, he took off into the sky, carrying her to the rooftop of a nearby building. Only after landing did he release her.

Straightening, Diana brushed the hair out of her face and turned to him. "Why did you stop me just now?"

Homelander chuckled. "Don't you see? This is a golden opportunity."

Her brows furrowed. "Opportunity for what?"

Admiring her radiant beauty under the moonlight, Homelander replied casually, "To awaken Superman's fighting spirit."

He gestured toward the chaos below. "An ancient enemy. A world-ending threat. All we're missing is a hero stepping into the spotlight."

"If you take them down, we'd lose the chance to give Clark the push he needs."

Diana shook her head firmly. "I've met him. In his current state, I don't think this will 'awaken' anything."

Homelander waved her concerns away. "You won't know until you try. Besides, doesn't he have a mother? If those two ancient sorcerers destroy the world, his mother won't survive either, will she?"

"Bet you anything, he'll rise for her sake."

"This isn't a good plan," Diana retorted. "And for the record, we've already found the Mother Box user—Dr. Silas Stone. Bruce is tracking him down as we speak."

At the mention of the Mother Box, a glint flickered in Homelander's eyes, his lips curling into a smile. "Well, that changes things."

Without another word, he vanished, taking off at supersonic speed toward Metropolis.

For him, the Witch and her Doomsday Machine had instantly become irrelevant. Compared to the Mother Box, they were nothing more than minor annoyances.

Diana sighed, leaping off the rooftop. She swung her Lasso of Truth onto a nearby lamppost and used the momentum to propel herself toward the two ancient sorcerers.

---

Metropolis.

Bruce Wayne stepped out of his car, followed closely by a towering young man.

It was Victor Stone, Silas Stone's son. Once a star athlete, Victor's life was turned upside down by a car accident that left only part of his body intact. Thanks to the Mother Box, he now possessed a powerful cybernetic body.

Dressed in a tracksuit, Victor's chest glowed faintly with red light that seeped through the fabric.

"Thank you, Victor. Thank you for trusting me," Bruce said, his eyes fixed on the laboratory ahead.

He'd gone to Victor's apartment earlier, but instead of Silas, he'd found Victor. After explaining his identity and intentions, Victor had chosen to trust him and led him here.

"He's been obsessed with that cube lately," Victor muttered, his voice tinged with bitterness. "He keeps saying he'll find a way to restore me. But we both know that's impossible."

Bruce glanced at the young man but offered no words of comfort. He understood that empty reassurances wouldn't help. Victor would need to accept his new reality before he could move forward.

"I'll talk to Dr. Stone," Bruce said, preparing to enter the lab.

But a soft whoosh stopped him in his tracks.

"Silas and the Mother Box are in here, right?"

Bruce and Victor turned sharply, startled by the sudden appearance of a familiar figure beside them.

Homelander.

Homelander had used his telepathic field to locate Bruce in the city, then locked onto him as an anchor to teleport over.

Victor tensed. "Who the hell is this guy?"

Bruce hesitated. "This is John. He's... an acquaintance."

Homelander chuckled, stepping forward. "We know each other. That's enough."

Victor moved to block his path. "Only Bruce goes in."

Before Bruce could intervene, Homelander waved dismissively. "Step aside, kid."

With a casual push, Victor was sent flying into a parked car, triggering its alarm.

Homelander ignored the commotion, scanning the lab interior with his enhanced vision. Sure enough, Silas was inside.

Victor climbed out of the wreckage, tossing his tracksuit aside to reveal his cybernetic body. "What are you doing?"

Homelander didn't even spare him a glance, walking straight toward the lab door.

"Wait, Mr. John!" Bruce called out, urgency creeping into his tone.

"I promised Victor I'd handle this."

Homelander smirked over his shoulder. "Your promises mean nothing to me."

And with that, he accelerated, crashing through the lab door.

Bruce's expression darkened as he watched the scene unfold.
