Chapter 55: Invasion
Walter Corporation
"Whirring... whirring…!!!"
Bang bang
The sound of heavy objects crashing, accompanied by faint panting, reverberated through the stainless steel isolation door.
"It's interesting, this voice..."
Kyle stood before the laboratory door, a little perplexed as he listened to the noise from inside. After a brief pause, he decided against entering and disturbing whoever was inside.
He had been aimlessly patrolling various labs when he came across Ryan's, and was immediately drawn in.
Maybe I'm just suffocating from being cooped up in my room researching all the time; it's only natural to blow off steam once in a while.
Boom!!
Suddenly, the situation took an unexpected turn.
There was an explosion in the lab, the impact warping the door slightly.
"Queen Red, what's happening in there?"
Kyle's calm demeanor faded. What's going on? This isn't venting; this is wrecking the place! What caused that explosion?
The laboratory was used to test the No. 7 crystal's controllability, specifically assessing its potential for successful animal implantation.
"Sorry, boss, all the cameras were destroyed. I couldn't capture anything."
The voice of the Red Queen was quick, and before she could finish speaking, the last footage captured before the cameras were disabled was projected.
It showed a grotesque, slimy creature, towering three meters high, tearing through the entire lab, consuming every last corpse in sight.
"Damn it, when did something like this appear in the company? Wait... it shouldn't be!"
Kyle's frustration mounted. This thing definitely wasn't created by nature... but then again, maybe it was.
The researchers must have turned the crystals into liquid form for experimentation, and that's when things went wrong.
He and Ryan had previously discovered that the guinea pigs transformed into violent, explosive creatures that eventually self-destructed.
Kyle yanked off his white coat, revealing a sweater beneath, preparing himself for whatever came next.
"Open the door and call for backup."
Breaking the glass of the emergency box, Kyle grabbed the red handle and pulled hard. Inside were two assault rifles and two grenades.
These emergency devices were installed on every floor to ensure that, should combat be necessary, resources were immediately available in a sudden crisis.
The laboratory door creaked open slowly, and an overpowering, sour stench rushed to meet Kyle, causing him to step back instinctively.
"Shit!"
When the door opened fully, the room was completely empty there was no sign of the creature. Only the mess of the lab remained.
Kyle quickly spotted the trail of mucus leading towards the ventilation system and instantly understood. The monster had escaped.
"Seal all exits within the company. Researchers and staff, proceed to safe zones. Fighters, take over the investigation."
The creature's strength was still unknown, but based on the surveillance images, it seemed formidable.
Now, with Natasha the company's top fighter gone, only the superpower team and Gasco remained on site.
As soon as the order was given, red warning lights flashed, and the shrill emergency sirens blared throughout the building.
"No, this is bad!"
Gasco, who had been training security on the 11th floor, reacted swiftly. He immediately signaled everyone to evacuate.
The color of the warning light determined the severity of the situation: green meant a minor issue with negligible casualties, red signified a major disaster that could destroy several labs and cause significant loss of life, while black indicated a catastrophic event that could lead to irreparable damage to the company.
Gasco quickly suited up and rushed toward the scene, only to find the elevators disabled. Forced to take the stairs, he sprinted toward the chaos.
"Queen Red, was the monster's location captured on any camera?"
Kyle asked as he stormed through the halls, his face grim. As part of the emergency protocols, the company was locked down, preventing the creature from escaping the premises.
But with fifty-three floors, no one knew where the monster might be hiding.
"None of the 2,463 hidden cameras captured it," came the Red Queen's voice. Despite her complete surveillance of the building, the liquid monster was elusive.
Perhaps it had turned into a puddle of liquid, lurking in a corner or hiding within the ventilation system.
"Monitor everything closely and prevent any casualties."
There was no sign of Ryan's body among the wreckage, which brought Kyle a sense of relief.
Ryan was the leading expert on the No. 7 crystal. Losing him would be a massive blow to their research.
Meanwhile, the fortified soldiers in protective gear entered Walter Corporation, beginning their investigation.

Superpower Training Room
Longton and Herb had finished their training session and were wiping sweat off their faces. Over the past few weeks, their strength had notably increased.
Lillian and Daisy, in the women's locker room, remained out of sight for now. For safety and privacy, they trained separately.
"Huh, I wonder when we'll be strong enough to hit the battlefield."
Herb took a large gulp of water before exhaling in satisfaction. He had been able to extend his teleportation ability to a 30-meter range, a huge improvement.
"I just hope the world sees less war," Longton replied, munching on an energy bar. These bars replenished energy quickly but tasted terrible almost like chewing plastic. Kyle had already been considering a better recipe for them.
"Yo, you guys are done already?"
Lillian and Daisy emerged from the locker room, heading toward the hydration station.
The superpower training room had been shut down, and the two of them were unaware of the situation unfolding outside.
Suddenly, there was a strange sound from the ventilation system.
"Did you hear that?"
Lillian looked around suspiciously, but couldn't pinpoint the source.
"No, I didn't hear anything. You must be imagining things," Daisy said, munching on fruit.
But Lillian's suspicion grew stronger. As a vampire, her senses were far sharper than the average person's even without fully awakening her abilities.
Something's off.
Not good!
Without warning, a blue-green liquid spike shot out from the vent, narrowly missing Daisy as Lillian quickly shoved her out of the way.
Lillian blocked the strike with her arms, absorbing the brunt of the attack.
"Lillian!" The others shouted, stunned by the unexpected assault.
They recovered quickly, preparing to fight back but froze when they saw the creature.
It was a humanoid monster made entirely of an unknown blue-green liquid. Behind it, the ventilation ducts continued to pump liquid into its form, replenishing it as it stood before them.
