Chapter 6: A Second Chance at Regret
Seeing Du Xiaoya exuding an alluring aura, Ye Chen raised an eyebrow.
"The school beauty is still the school beauty. Even after graduation, she remains just as captivating."
Drying his damp hair with a towel, he walked over and asked casually, "Why aren't you drinking? Don't you like it?"
"I have work in a little while. Drinking might make me slip up," Du Xiaoya replied, her voice subtly emphasizing the word "slip."
Her tone was undeniably enticing.
Ye Chen chuckled. "Alright." He didn't overthink her intentions. If something was within reach, he'd take it; if not, he wouldn't force it. These days, many women were considered goddesses in the eyes of others. But if it was just for a fleeting connection, Ye Chen wasn't interested.
He had no desire to be a man who begged for affection. He understood that chasing after someone relentlessly often led to nothing in the end.
Du Xiaoya sensed the nonchalance in Ye Chen's voice, and her heart tightened. This was the kind of attitude she disliked the most—indifference. It meant he didn't care, that he saw her as optional, as if she had no real importance to him.
For someone like Du Xiaoya, who liked to be in control, this realization was unsettling. She bit her lower lip, a flicker of frustration flashing in her eyes.
Ye Chen poured himself a glass of red wine and took a sip.
"Hmm…" He frowned slightly, then set the glass down.
He wasn't fond of red wine and saw no reason to pretend he was. Some people acted as if drinking wine made them sophisticated, but to him, it was just another drink.
Picking up his phone from the table, he pressed a button. Within seconds, the call connected.
"Mr. Ye, what are your instructions?" a respectful voice asked.
"Bring me a set of clothes—everything, inside and out. Choose a good style and brand that matches."
Ye Chen's clothes were in his rental apartment, but he had no interest in going back just for them. It wasn't worth the trouble, nor was it about the money.
"Understood, Mr. Ye. Anything else?" Andy, the butler, asked.
"Bring some food as well." Ye Chen glanced at Du Xiaoya and asked, "Have you eaten dinner? Want something?"
"Not yet," she admitted.
Ye Chen turned back to the phone. "Two servings of garlic lobster, two plates of French-style pan-seared foie gras, two fruit salads, two bottles of Ace of Spades champagne, and two Kobe steaks—one fully cooked and the other…"
He looked at Du Xiaoya. "How do you like your steak?"
"Fully cooked," she replied, a bit unnerved by his extravagant order.
She knew exactly how expensive this meal was. If she had to pay for it herself, half a year's salary wouldn't be enough.
"Two fully cooked then," Ye Chen confirmed.
He never understood the obsession with rare steaks. Some people insisted on eating them bloody because they thought it was gourmet. He simply ate what he liked.
"Understood, Mr. Ye. I'll have it delivered shortly," Andy responded before ending the call.
Ye Chen set down his phone and leaned back, observing Du Xiaoya as he did.
Her legs, long and slender, were wrapped in sheer stockings, the perfect balance of fullness and elegance. Though partially hidden by her boots, they only added to her charm. Her short black skirt accentuated her figure, making her look even more alluring.
Noticing his gaze, Du Xiaoya smirked slightly, feeling a sense of satisfaction. But moments later, she sighed.
"Ye Chen, this meal alone costs more than half a year's salary for me. Isn't this too extravagant?"
Ye Chen shrugged. "I'm just an unemployed drifter. If I ever run out of money, I'll just collect rent."
His wealth system allowed him to earn points by spending money—on cars, houses, and luxury goods. The more he spent, the richer he became.
Of course, he wasn't reckless. He had a plan.
After making billions, he had considered purchasing an entire apartment complex. That way, he could spend a huge amount at once, boost his wealth system level, and secure a stable income through rent collection.
Even if the system ever disappeared, owning real estate would ensure a comfortable life.
Du Xiaoya's mind raced.
"A second-generation rich kid?"
She had spent four years in college with him and never realized it.
Regret bubbled up inside her. She remembered how Ye Chen had often glanced at her in class. If only she had responded, even a little, maybe things would be different now. Maybe she wouldn't be feeling so powerless.
"What about your girlfriend?" she asked suddenly. "Does she not mind you going out like this?"
Ye Chen paused, then smiled. "Which one?"
Du Xiaoya's eyes widened. "What?! How many do you have?"
She hadn't expected that answer, and an unsettling feeling crept into her heart.
Regret deepened within her. If only she had paid attention to him back then…
