Chapter 7: The Regret of Du Xiaoya

With a single thought, she had missed the chance to be with a truly wealthy second-generation heir. And not just any heir—one at his purest and most genuine stage.

For most women, this would be a regret that lingered.

Du Xiaoya was feeling that regret now.

If only she hadn't overthought things back then. If she hadn't judged Ye Chen based on his clothes and had simply followed her instincts...

Then today, she would be the hostess of this presidential suite, not just a former classmate trying to get close to Ye Chen.

If only she hadn't been so "smart" back then...

Du Xiaoya was always considered intelligent. She understood very well what kind of woman a man truly cherishes.

That's why, throughout her university years, she never dated.

Sure, there were many wealthy students at the university, but none of them were true second-generation heirs.

She refused to give away her most precious thing for a fleeting love affair. If she did, she feared she would be seen as cheap, making it nearly impossible for her to win the affection of a real wealthy heir in the future.

No matter what the internet claims—that men don't care about such things—in reality, truly powerful men do value it.

Snapping back to the present, Du Xiaoya raised her head and asked, "Aren't you afraid that your girlfriends will find out about each other and cause trouble?"

"If they make a fuss, so be it. Getting together and breaking up is easy," Ye Chen shrugged indifferently.

Du Xiaoya bit her lip. She didn't like that answer, but reason told her that if she chose Ye Chen, this was his attitude—his final stance.

After a brief silence, she suddenly smiled and asked, "Are all men like you?"

Ye Chen glanced at her with mild surprise before replying, "It's hard to say. Everyone has their own approach to life. You can't generalize."

"And you? Do you plan to stay away from women forever and never get married?" Du Xiaoya probed.

"Marriage? That's way too far off," Ye Chen said, leaning back into the sofa. His eyes gleamed with amusement.

Du Xiaoya shifted slightly, feeling a bit uneasy under his gaze.

Seeing her reaction, Ye Chen smirked. "I just want to enjoy life. And of course, it would be even better if I had a group of women by my side, always with me."

Hearing this, Du Xiaoya chuckled, poured herself a glass of red wine, and took a sip.

"Women age quickly after thirty. Would you still want them then?" she asked curiously.

"Why not? If they're willing to stay with me, they are my women. Why would I abandon them?" Ye Chen asked in return, genuinely surprised by her question.

Du Xiaoya swirled the wine in her glass and smiled. "I never expected a rich heir like you to be so sentimental."

"It's not about sentimentality. You could also call it possessiveness," Ye Chen replied with a smirk.

His confident response made Du Xiaoya pause momentarily.

After a while, she asked seriously, "Ye Chen, can I ask you something?"

"Go ahead."

She hesitated before asking, "Why didn't you pursue me in college?"

Ye Chen hadn't expected that question. He was briefly stunned before sighing helplessly. "Back then, there were too many wealthy guys chasing after you. I didn't think I stood a chance."

Du Xiaoya wasn't convinced. She knew why she asked—she wanted clarity, not just to confirm any lingering emotions.

As soon as Ye Chen finished speaking, Du Xiaoya felt a pang of disappointment. His answer was too vague to interpret.

She looked at him with slight resentment. "You're lying. If we're talking about true second-generation heirs, you were probably the only real one in the entire school."

Ye Chen chuckled but didn't continue discussing the matter.

"And you? Didn't you find a boyfriend after graduation?" he asked.

"Finding a good man is harder than making a pig climb a tree. Why bother? Being alone is better," Du Xiaoya replied pointedly.

Ye Chen smiled indifferently, and her mood soured slightly when she saw his lack of reaction.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

"Ding dong, ding dong."

Ye Chen stood up and opened the door.

"Mr. Ye, here are the clothes you ordered. Are you satisfied?" Andy, the store assistant, asked with a smile.

Ye Chen glanced at the selection—casual suits, warm coats, shirts, ties, dress shoes. He didn't know much about fashion, but the sight was pleasing to the eye.

Nodding, he said, "This will do. Charge the total, including the previous order."

"Mr. Ye, the total cost of the clothing is 250,000 yuan. Including your meal order, the total comes to 328,000 yuan," Andy informed him.

"Wait here," Ye Chen said as he walked to the bathroom, retrieved his bank card, and swiped it for payment.

After signing, Andy added, "Mr. Ye, our store is still open. You can try everything on first. If anything doesn't fit, I can replace it for you."

"No need. You didn't ask for my size before selecting these clothes, which means you're a professional," Ye Chen said with a slight smile.

Andy bowed slightly. "Thank you, Mr. Ye. If you need anything else, just let us know. Your meal should be ready in about ten minutes. Please wait patiently."

Ye Chen nodded as two waitresses carried the clothes inside. Once everything was placed, Andy left with them, and Ye Chen returned to the living room.

Just then, Du Xiaoya's phone rang—a video call notification.

Still reeling from the fact that Ye Chen had just spent 328,000 yuan so effortlessly, she quickly pulled out her phone and declined the call.

But the call came again.

Seeing this, Ye Chen said, "It's okay. Answer it. If it's inconvenient, I can step away."

"No, I don't have a boyfriend," Du Xiaoya quickly clarified before accepting the call.

"Xiaoya, what are you doing? Why didn't you answer my video call earlier?"

"Yeah, Xiaoya, where are you? You seem... different tonight."
