Chapter 237: C204
Anton didn't actually want to go to Asgard.
But now that the Destroyer issue was resolved, he was furious about not receiving the justice value reward he had expected!
It seemed like doing good deeds halfway wasn't enough—he'd have to see them through to the end.
"Fine," Anton thought, "let's help these Asgardians completely solve their problems and go straight to Asgard to face Loki."
As for whether this would change the future, like preventing the New York invasion from its source… Anton assured himself he'd tread carefully.
After all, killing Loki in front of Odin was hardly realistic.
Although Odin was currently in the Odinsleep due to his injuries, he was still a being on par with a Supreme Sorcerer.
His awareness of the outside world likely remained intact—he could even be watching right now.
Even if Anton wanted to kill Loki, the bigger question was whether Odin would allow it.
Odin wasn't just the Allfather—he was the ruler who had once unified the Nine Realms, a god-king of immense power.
In the original story, Loki staged his own death, but it might not have been entirely his decision. Perhaps Odin orchestrated it all.
Anton doubted Odin would let his son, Loki, die at the hands of someone like Wonder Woman.
Facing a boss-level figure like Odin, no amount of preparation felt adequate.
Anton knew his current identity as Wonder Woman wouldn't be enough to overturn Odin's plans.
While Wonder Woman was powerful—especially now that she had picked up Mjolnir and gained Thor's powers—she still hadn't reached the ceiling level of strength.
Odin, on the other hand, was undoubtedly a galactic-level being. Despite his age and waning physical prowess, his experience and wisdom only grew stronger.
Anton even suspected that Loki's betrayal and Thor's exile were part of a grand design Odin had carefully controlled.
Even if Wonder Woman wielding Mjolnir altered some details, Odin would likely find a way to ensure Thor's journey to reclaim his title remained intact.
"What?!"
Sif and the others were still recovering from their injuries, but their Asgardian physiology ensured rapid healing. As top warriors of Asgard, they could survive wounds that would be fatal to humans.
"Are you going to Asgard?"
The Warriors Three exchanged glances, their expressions a mixture of surprise and curiosity. Then, their eyes shifted to Thor.
'She's not… your daughter, is she?'
"Uh, I didn't say anything!" Thor stammered, misinterpreting their looks before turning to Wonder Woman. "Thank you!"
"No need to thank me," Wonder Woman replied dismissively. "I'm going to Asgard, and that has nothing to do with you."
Her tone was firm, and she didn't spare Thor another glance.
The reason she informed Sif and the others of her intention was simple: she needed them to summon Heimdall, the Rainbow Bridge's gatekeeper, from across time and space.
Few knew Heimdall's true significance—he wasn't just the all-seeing, all-hearing protector of Asgard. According to the most basic lore, Heimdall was actually Sif's elder brother.
As one of Odin's most trusted allies, Heimdall was not only a formidable warrior but also the guardian of the city's gates, ensuring no intruder could enter unchallenged.
Even though Wonder Woman knew Heimdall was watching events unfold on Earth from afar, she couldn't guarantee he would heed her call and allow her passage to Asgard.
Only if Sif and the others called for him directly could she be certain Heimdall would respond.
According to the timeline of the original plot, Loki had already allowed Laufey to enter Asgard, setting up a sneak attack to kill the frost giant king.
At this point, Heimdall might have already been frozen by Loki using the Casket of Ancient Winters.
The situation was urgent.
"Anyway, thank you for your help," Sif said.
"The people of Asgard will always remember your kindness."
The group of four prepared themselves. Sif called out loudly, "Heimdall, open the Rainbow Bridge and let us return!"
There was no response.
Nearby, the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. watched with a mix of unease and curiosity.
"Are they leaving?" Coulson asked, surprised. He speculated that the Asgardians were calling their allies in another world, using some form of teleportation technology to return home.
"Yes," Anton finally acknowledged Coulson's question, his tone indifferent. "But Wonder Woman still has things to take care of."
"Heimdall!" Thor called out, sensing something was wrong with the Rainbow Bridge. His voice grew desperate. "Heimdall, we need you!"
Boom!
At last, after several minutes of repeated calls, the sky darkened as swirling clouds formed above them. A vortex of energy crackled, signaling the arrival of the Rainbow Bridge's power.
Sif and the others, despite their injuries, hurried toward the teleportation array. Thor supported Volstagg, who was the most gravely injured among them.
When they reached the array, the group turned briefly to glance at the slowly approaching Wonder Woman.
Whoosh!
A beam of light shot down from the sky, enveloping them. In an instant, they disappeared.
"It really is teleportation technology," Coulson muttered, watching the Asgardians vanish without a trace. He thought back to the teleportation device that had been taken by the Justice League and sighed.
Earth's progress was far too slow. With humanity's current level of science and technology, who knew how long it would take to develop functional teleportation systems?
"Asgard's teleportation technology isn't as perfect as you think," Anton said lightly, overhearing Coulson's remark.
"The Bifrost only covers the Nine Realms—that's limited to interplanetary travel within a galaxy. Cross-galactic teleportation is much more complex. Even in this universe, very few civilizations have mastered such advanced technology."
What Anton didn't mention, however, was that the teleportation device taken from S.H.I.E.L.D. was capable of cross-galactic travel. He wasn't about to disclose that in their presence.
For now, Coulson seemed satisfied with Anton's explanation. Setting aside his envy, he focused on directing S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to clean up the area and prepare for their return.
Asgard
When Wonder Woman and the others arrived on the Rainbow Bridge, the first thing they saw was Heimdall lying on the ground.
"Heimdall!" Sif and the others shouted in alarm, rushing to his side to assess his injuries.
"You take him for treatment," Wonder Woman said decisively. "I know who to call."
Before anyone could respond, she gripped Thor's hammer tightly. With a powerful leap, her bent legs launched her like a cannonball out of the Rainbow Bridge hall. She flew like a lightning bolt toward the palace.
"...Huh?"
Sif and the others watched as Wonder Woman's figure became smaller and smaller in the distance. She moved like the wind, disappearing entirely into the palace.
They stood frozen, staring after her, before slowly turning to Thor in unison.
Even the injured Heimdall, despite his weakened state, couldn't help casting a curious glance at Thor.
As a warrior who could see and hear everything, Heimdall was well aware of Sif and the others' earlier suspicions.
"What's going on?" Thor asked, puzzled, scratching his head. "Why are you all staring at me?"
"Thor, just admit it," Sif said with a smirk.
"Admit what?"
"She's your illegitimate daughter, isn't she?"
"???"
Thor was dumbfounded, his expression blank and full of disbelief.
