Chapter 238: C205(1)

The palace was a prominent landmark in Asgard.

From the Bifrost, the tallest and most striking structure visible was the palace—home to Odin, the king of the gods.

Wonder Woman reached the palace and noticed something unusual: she encountered no guards along the way.

The massive halls were eerily silent, with no sound except the echo of her own footsteps.

It was clear that Loki had dismissed the guards under some pretense, paving the way for the Frost Giant King Laufey to infiltrate Asgard and enter the palace unimpeded.

Laufey was undoubtedly preparing to attack his old rival, Odin.

However, what Laufey hadn't realized was that the one truly planning to kill him was not Odin, but his own son and supposed ally—Loki.

Although Odin appeared to be in a deep, vegetative sleep, his presence remained formidable. Even in this state, he seemed to loom above it all, aware of everything happening around him.

Wonder Woman pressed on, heading for the grandest area of the palace, knowing that Odin would be there. His resting place wasn't difficult to find.

Her search was further aided by the frost giants wandering inside the palace.

These Jotunheim invaders, with their purple skin and towering forms, stood out starkly from the humans and Asgardians who usually occupied the palace. Clearly, they were Laufey's men.

If necessary, Wonder Woman figured she could extract information from them.

Inside the Palace: Odin's Chamber

"It is said that you can still hear and see those around you... Then you must know that your death will come at the hands of the Frost Giant King Laufey," Laufey sneered.

He loomed over the one-eyed Odin, who lay motionless on a golden bed. Laufey's voice dripped with hatred and satisfaction as he spoke.

An icy spear began to form in Laufey's hand, its tip aimed at Odin's chest.

Whoosh!

Before the spear could strike, a beam of energy blasted into Laufey.

Boom!

The Frost Giant King was thrown sideways, his once-mighty body shattered by the force of the attack. Half of him collapsed to the ground, his lower body obliterated by the searing energy.

Yet, even in this state, Laufey's incredible vitality kept him conscious. His crimson eyes glared at Loki, filled with disbelief and fury.

"Why?" Laufey hissed through gritted teeth. "Why betray me?"

"This is not a betrayal," Loki replied coldly, raising the scepter in his hand and pointing it at Laufey, who was now completely helpless.

"I was never one of you. I am not of Jotunheim. I am of Asgard. I am the son of Odin, the king of the gods."

Loki's voice turned icy. "Remember this: you were killed by the son of God King Odin."

With those final words, Loki unleashed another devastating energy ray from his scepter.

Whoosh!

The blast reduced Laufey's body to countless sparks, annihilating him completely. No trace remained—only ashes scattered into the void.

"Loki!"

Frigga, Odin's queen, who had been knocked down earlier by Laufey, struggled to her feet and rushed toward her son.

"You saved him!" she exclaimed, tears in her eyes.

She embraced Loki tightly, gratitude and relief radiating from her. For a moment, the two held each other in silence.

Loki made a solemn promise to Frigga: "I swear to you, they will pay the price."

The "they" he referred to were, of course, the Frost Giants and their realm, Jotunheim.

Loki was undoubtedly the archetype of a jealous, scheming younger sibling. Jealous of his brother Thor, he orchestrated events to make Thor commit a grave mistake, angering Odin and leading to Thor's banishment to Earth as a mortal.

With his father slipping into the Odinsleep, Loki seized the opportunity to act in his own interest and claim the throne for himself.

If the story ended there, Loki would simply be a conniving villain—ambitious, cruel, and calculating.

But this was not Loki's story. It was Thor's, and Loki's fate was destined to end in tragedy.

In the original timeline, when Loki learned that Thor was on his way back to Asgard to reclaim his place, his jealousy and rage knew no bounds.

In a desperate move, he sent the Destroyer to eliminate Thor. Ironically, this only served to help Thor regain his divine power and prove himself worthy.

Knowing he had lost, Loki moved on to his final gambit.

By luring Laufey, the King of the Frost Giants, to Asgard, Loki planned to assassinate him inside Odin's palace—right by the All-Father's sleeping bed.

This act of treachery would serve as Loki's justification for waging war on Jotunheim and completely destroying the Frost Giant realm.

In doing so, Loki hoped to demonstrate his authority and capability as a leader.

In Loki's mind, this would make him the savior of Asgard. Even if Thor returned, Loki's accomplishments would eclipse his brother's, securing his place as the hero and rightful king.

In this altered timeline, Thor still had not regained his powers. Even if he returned to Asgard, he was in no position to stop Loki.

As long as Loki followed through with his plan—killing Laufey, saving Odin, and declaring war on Jotunheim—his claim to the throne would only grow stronger.

"With what I hold in my hands, I will never surrender to you," Loki muttered darkly, his eyes narrowing.

Suddenly, a sharp voice rang out, echoing through the vast, quiet chamber.

"Loki!"

This was Odin's sleeping quarters, an area so sacred that even guards were forbidden from entering.

The soldiers stationed at the door dared not step inside, leaving the space accessible only to Odin's closest family—Thor, Frigga, and Loki himself.

The voice was unmistakably that of a woman. It was not Thor. That left only one possibility.

"It's her," Loki thought bitterly, his gaze snapping to the entrance of the chamber.

There, stepping into the dim light, was a tall, graceful figure. She approached with confidence, the hammer of Thor in her hand.

Loki immediately recognized her as the woman who had interfered with his plans earlier—the one who had confronted the Destroyer and foiled his efforts.

"You dare to trespass in the palace?!" Loki growled, his voice low and menacing. "You deserve death! You've violated Asgard's most sacred laws."

"If I deserve death, then so do you," Wonder Woman replied calmly.
