Dungeon Raider System

Chapter 97 : Love letter

The fact that one of the exhibitions was named 'Pre diluvium' could mean many different things. It all depended on what the system was, how it worked and where did this mysterious information came from, but being the archaeological geek he was, Uriel couldn't accept something as vague as that as evidence.

Instead of lingering on such matters, he tried to remember the vision where he saw Father of many nations, Dearest one and Water warlock at the top of a pyramid on 'El dorado'. Although it couldn't be considered hard evidence either, Uriel believed in the value of empiric evidence, not as proof but as means to further his research.

'If my theory that the mystical realm does exist somewhere and that the vision presented to me actually happened, then...' His thoughts were getting heavier and heavier as he muttered lots of historical facts, random theories and legends, until he remembered a pretty specific detail about his vision.

When Water warlock stabbed himself in the heart, right before everything went black, he could hear the sound of rainfall. It was distant, but unmistakable. He also remembered how Water warlock referred to himself as 'the one who destroyed the world'.

'Could this all mean that Water warlock was the one behind the diluvium? More than that, does this mean that the diluvium is a fact and not the imaginary ramblings of religion?' Although the event called 'the diluvium', which was a universal deluge, appeared on almost every ancient culture and religion, its veracity could never be proven and it remained as nothing but a tale.

It was one of the 'coincidences' between ancient cultures that prompted Uriel to investigate the existence of a 'proto civilization' , but up to that point he had failed to gather any evidence supporting the theory of an actual universal deluge.

However, now that all the pieces of the puzzle started fitting together, even if he couldn't prove it yet, he was more excited than ever to continue his research.

As luck would have it, though, Uriel wouldn't be able to continue this line of thought as he was interrupted by someone cutting his path.

"What do you think you're doing here?" Heavenly sword Cassandra asked in a tone of voice that sounded like a threat.

"Me? What are you doing here?" Said Uriel in a defensive tone, not realizing he was surrounded by women.

"That's none of your business."

"Then the reason why I'm here is none of yours either." Uriel rebuked.

"That would be true, if not for the fact that you're currently inside the female dorm building, and you're not a female are you?." Cassandra said mockingly, prompting the girls around her to burst into laughter.

"For the love of the flag, he's an idiot!"

"No, I think he's a pervert that came here to peep!"

"Shut up, she's a woman... look at her flawless skin. Hey! Sister, why don't you tell me what beauty product do you use? I wish my skin could look like yours."

Those were just some of the nasty comments the girls made in between giggles, though the last one could have also been considered a compliment. In spite of the ill intention directed towards him, Uriel was completely unfazed by the social pressure and spoke calmly.

"I'm here looking for your sister."

"And why should I help you? If I remember correctly, last time we saw each other you said you didn't know me." Cassandra scoffed, yet Uriel wasn't ready to give up.

"I'm not asking for help, I'm asking you to stop being a nuisance and step out of my way."

The girls were ready to keep mocking him, but Cassandra raised her hand in a gesture to stop them and she became serious.

"So the little mouse has some balls, huh!? You can squeak all you like, but you're still nothing but a slum rat. Yes, I know about you, turns out your 'friend' Mark was more than happy to tell me everything about you." She said in her trademark hostile way of speech.

"If you're not moving then..." Uriel placed his hand inside his pocket. Cassandra rapidly took a fighting stance, but relaxed once she noticed that Uriel wasn't holding a weapon but a small piece of paper.

Now Uriel was at a crossroads. He could write the address and the same instructions he left for Medusa and Sam, but that would leak information he wanted to keep a secret, especially from someone who was acquainted with Mark. To avoid risking such an outcome, he came up with a solution.

"I'm in love with Luna and I would like you to pass this 'love letter' to her." He said as he handed the 'love letter' that carried a half assed last minute love confession, an address a couple blocks from the abandoned factory he wanted to buy and a time to meet.

Given that Cassandra already knew he came from the slums, he deemed it safe to provide that much information to Luna and he crossed his fingers hoping for his friend to understand the true meaning behind the 'love letter'.

Cassandra took the letter and read it without batting an eye. Of all the possibilities, something like a love confession to Luna never even crossed her mind and she was in utter disbelief. It wasn't that Luna wasn't beautiful, in fact, even she thought her sister was pretty, but her character was flawed and she difficult to deal with.

"You!? How dare you go after my sister!? A dirt poor scumbag like you!" She said offended and flustered at the same time. "I won't give her this trash, in fact I'll tear it into pieces right now."

"You can do as you like, I wonder how will she react when she finds out her own sister kept her from getting a boyfriend. Are you, perhaps, jealous?" Uriel said, effectively turning the tables on her and now it was Cassandra's turn to be mocked by her friends, though in a much more discrete way.

"W-what do you, What do you mean by that!?" She said amidst stutters.

"Look who's stuttering now! Is it the fact that you can't get a boyfriend that bothers you, or are you into me? I'm sorry, but you're not my type." Uriel lied through his teeth as she was precisely his type. He wasn't in love with Luna and, in fact, he thought Cassandra had to be one of the most beautiful girls he'd ever seen.

But none of that mattered after seeing Dearest one, even if for a brief moment, just a glimpse of her was enough to open his eyes to what true beauty really was. Besides, he wasn't in the market for a girlfriend.

If he was, he would probably take a chance with Medusa rather than Luna. As he knew she fancied him, and he found her to be as beautiful as she was nice. But, something like that would only bring him trouble, as Uriel was also aware that Sam liked Medusa.

The truth was, he only said he loved Luna as a facade to get her to come to his abandoned factory in the slums. Although he hadn't known Luna for a long period, he was certain that she wouldn't believe something as deranged as him being in love with her, but she would still come out of curiosity.

Cassandra was even more offended than before after being humiliated by Uriel, but she was also speechless and too embarrassed to even think straight. Her cheeks flushed against her will and she couldn't help but flinch when Uriel looked her straight in the eye.

"It seems I don't have anything else to do here." Uriel said as he left the place.

The girls were dumbfounded, they were also scared of how Cassandra would react as she was known to be prone to violence, but their fears were unfounded. Heavenly sword Cassandra, the only one to acquire a heavenly rank during the yearly incursion, the strongest of her generation had been made a fool by a mere bottom feeder.

And all she could do was to try and cool off her mind enough to come up with a snarky comment, sarcastic remark or anything but, it was too late as Uriel had already left.

If before she held a grudge against Uriel for not taking her to the Mapple corp. expedition and wanted to humiliate him as much as she could, now that he humiliated her in front of her friends she wanted blood.
