Journey of the consumer

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Status screen

One thing Azrael has been trying to figure out these past few months, is how to use his skills.

With thoughts of 'do I need to toggle them on or off like a game?' Or ' do they naturally active on thier own'.

Turns out he was partially correct on the first question.

He needed to sense the presence of the abilities within himself somehow. Difficult for a man who lived a life absent from magical powers.

But with his senses attuned and trained to be sensitive, he eventually found them and like he thought they were inactive. They needed to be activated/opened, like they were wrapped up in a gift package or something similar.

With these skills though, Azrael found another topic of interest. The status page!

The legendary status page that appears in every generic fantasy novel and games.

The semi-materialistic manifestation of his strengths and descriptions of his skills and classes.

And so, with the long buried nerd version of himself slowly bubbling with excitement, he calls the famous phrase.

'Status'

'A short and simple status window, good thing I don't have a system with an AI or something. I find those pretty weird after all.'

Huming lightly in a appreciation at the status window he has, he also remarks at his distaste for having a potential manipulative higher power inside his brain.

'. I noticed I don't have the tatto or anything similar to the game? Do I just need to will it to appear to use it? Like the status window?'

Putting these thoughts into action, he looks into his self and feels for the skill he recognises as and wills for its activaton.

"WAAAAAAAAAAH"

Azrael lets screams and an accidental cry, alerting his nearby family members and startling them.

The skill becomes active by a searing pain being carved into his left hand, as if being branded by demonic flame that's dead set on tourchering the one who receives the mark, or perhaps testing their will.

Quickly gathering at his position in a baby chair in a instant, Mary picks him up to comfort him while checking on his well being.

Soon after, the noise is followed by Azraels sibling worried for their youngest sibling.

"AZRAEL!" Arina calls out as if expecting a crying baby's reply. "MOM?! What's happening?" She finally spits out seeing how shouting him out is pretty stupid and useless, so she calls for her mother to check his well being instead.

As Arina questions the other two siblings also nod along in reply, like two duckling following the bigger duck.

To this Mary's hands and irises emit a soft glow, a light green colour which envelops Azraels whole body in the same glow, before finally settling on his finally freshly branded hand.

Mary lets out a sigh of relief seeing her child okay, but everyone's gazes fall to the newly formed tatto on his hand.

"Mother, what is that on his hand?" Felix is this first to question this sudden situation arising from his sibling.

She just continues to stare at the mark, trying to understand it her self, but eventually just gives up and rubs Azraels teary eyes.

"He's okay kids, this is most likely an inborn skill manifested on his body. Nothing to worry about, okay."

She reassurs her children who after a couple minutes finally settle down and go do their own thing.

Azrael on the other hand is just laying in his mothers arms, a sour expression on his face.

'What the fuck!! Aphrodite!!'
