Chapter 63: Episode 63: Secrets Beneath the Roots
The morning sun filtered through the dense canopy of the Nature Kingdom, casting golden streaks of light through the windows of their treehouse. The group had slept better than they had in weeks, but the weight of their mission quickly returned to their minds as they gathered around the table for breakfast. The enchanted kitchen had already prepared a fresh assortment of food—steamed rice wrapped in large green leaves, fruit that shimmered slightly with magical energy, and herbal tea that carried a calming aroma.
Kaelen was the first to speak. "Now that we have a safe place to stay, we need to figure out how to get the Nature Stone. Unlike the Light Kingdom, where power ruled everything, Oranos plays a different game."
Ren leaned forward. "Meaning?"
Kaelen sighed. "Oranos thrives on deception. He wants everyone to think the Nature Stone is unreachable, hidden in some sacred shrine. But in reality, he's searching for it himself. He doesn't have it."
Sakayanagi blinked. "Wait—what? You're saying the ruler of this kingdom doesn't even have his own elemental stone?"
Kaelen nodded. "Exactly. The Nature Stone is the one element he can't fully control. He pretends he has it, using the kingdom's life energy to make it seem like he holds ultimate authority, but he's been secretly hunting for the real thing. He's desperate."
Shigan folded his arms. "Then our job just got harder. If he's already looking for it, we're in a race against him."
Ren smirked. "That just means we have to find it first."
Uncovering the Truth
Kaelen pulled out a worn-out parchment and spread it across the table. "This is a map of the kingdom. The locations marked in red are the places Oranos's men frequently patrol. The biggest one?" He pointed to a spiraling tree symbol near the center. "The Grand Elder's Temple. If we want information, that's where we start."
Sakayanagi examined the map. "Do you think the elders know where the stone is?"
Kaelen hesitated. "Maybe. The Grand Elder is the only person powerful enough to challenge Oranos, but he's bound by old traditions. If we want answers, we'll have to earn them."
Ren grinned. "Then let's go pay the Grand Elder a visit."
Journey to the Temple
The group set out through the winding pathways of the Nature Kingdom. The town bustled with activity—traders selling glowing mushrooms, children playing with tamed forest creatures, and healers offering remedies made from enchanted herbs. But beneath the peaceful atmosphere, there was an unspoken tension.
As they neared the temple, the air grew heavy with energy. The structure was built within an ancient, colossal tree, its roots forming a natural stairway leading to a grand entrance. Guards stood watch, their armor woven with living vines, their eyes alert.
"We can't just walk in," Shigan muttered. "They'll recognize Kaelen."
Kaelen smirked. "I thought of that." He reached into his pouch and pulled out small, shimmering leaves. "Camouflage leaves. These will temporarily mask our appearances. But once we're inside, we're on our own."
They each took a leaf, pressing it against their foreheads. A soft glow enveloped them before their appearances subtly shifted—enough to avoid immediate suspicion.
"Let's move," Ren said.
With that, they stepped through the towering entrance, unaware of the secrets that awaited them beneath the temple's roots.
