Chapter 267: MD-Chapter 266 Harry's Decision!
Arthur had a good night's sleep. Although curing Harry's genetic disease and creating the related serum wasn't too difficult for him, it still took three to four days of effort, leaving him feeling a bit mentally worn out.
In the end, he felt satisfied with his good deed, not expecting anything in return. It reinforced his righteous persona and added another brick to the wall of his noble character.
Still, he couldn't help but feel a little reluctant and tired.
"Well, at least it's over now," Arthur muttered to himself as he took a carton of milk from the fridge, poured himself a glass, and nodded in self-assurance.
Just then, his phone rang.
Arthur blinked and glanced at the screen. It wasn't the call he had been eagerly awaiting from Natasha— it was Harry!
"Is there a problem with the serum? Is this an after-sales complaint?"
He answered the call and brought the phone to his ear. "How's your health holding up?"
"Pretty good," Harry said, his voice tinged with excitement. "Here's the thing— I didn't sleep at all last night."
"…Let me guess. You're feeling so great that you decided to find yourself a couple of enchanting little fairies? As an elder, Harry, I advise you to be kind... Wait, no! I advise you to be moderate!"
"No!" Harry paused for a second, seemingly taking a couple of deep breaths before saying, "I'm being very serious here!!"
"Alright, go on. I'm listening seriously too."
"So, here's the thing…" Harry started to explain but then fell silent.
Arthur assumed the signal was bad and checked his phone, but there were no issues. Bringing it back to his ear, he asked curiously, "Why aren't you talking? I'm seriously listening here…"
"I'm seriously trying to remember what I wanted to tell you!" Harry's exasperated voice came through. "I feel like next time I need to discuss something important with you, I'll have my secretary prepare a script for me. That way, I won't forget what I was saying because you keep interrupting me!"
"No, no, no, this isn't about memory," Arthur consoled him. "It's about intelligence."
"Thanks for the insult…" Harry sounded annoyed. However, perhaps the sarcastic remark jolted his memory because he suddenly exclaimed, "Right! I didn't sleep last night!"
"…If you're just calling to tell me you had insomnia, we can hang up now," Arthur said with a sigh. "The serum doesn't treat insomnia, and that's definitely not part of my after-sales service. You should go find a couple of enchanting little fairies; they might wear you out enough to make you sleep."
"You just told me to be moderate!" Harry's tone resembled that of a man pushed to the brink. "Dude, can you stop messing with me? I've already forgotten what I was talking about!"
"You were talking about your insomnia…" Arthur replied helplessly. "You're young; how come your brain doesn't work properly? If necessary, I can recommend a hospital and even get you an 80% discount on medical bills."
"…As two grown men, this roundabout conversation is incredibly frustrating!"
Harry took several deep breaths to calm himself before finally saying, "To be precise, I lost sleep last night because of you!"
"Goodbye!!!"
Arthur didn't even hesitate— he was about to hang up immediately.
'What's wrong with this guy?'
'Insomnia because of me? What nonsense is this?'
'Think about it: I am a proud seven-foot-tall man of righteous stature, brimming with heroic charm and unparalleled handsomeness.'
'Sure, I might not be a heartthrob sweeping thousands of girls off their feet, but it's not like I don't have admirers. Worst-case scenario, there's even that older single lady up in Odin's realm, waiting to throw herself at me.'
'Although, to be fair, that "older single lady" is so ridiculously strong that I can't handle her and have no intention of trying. Still, there's no reason to entertain the lovesick ramblings of a young lad like you.'
'And seriously, you're thinking about me?'
"Wait, wait, wait!" Harry quickly interjected. "I'm talking about something serious here! My god, I can't believe this is your true personality. If you had talked to me like this the first day you snuck into my office, it wouldn't have intimidated me one bit— I would've called the cops right away!"
"We've been talking for ten minutes now. What exactly is your point?"
Arthur glanced at the time, stifling a yawn. He figured he'd catch another nap later and said, "You know, superheroes are busy people. I still have to go out and uphold justice. After all, aimless young men and women like you, constantly teetering on the edge of failure, are always waiting for me to save them."
"…"
Harry was on the verge of a breakdown. He almost slammed the phone down. Who the heck is teetering on the edge of failure? What was I even trying to say at the start?
"Can you just stop interrupting me!!!" Harry roared in frustration.
Arthur blinked and waited for a long time, but there was no response from the other end. Meanwhile, he happily finished two glasses of milk.
As he put the carton back in the fridge, Harry's feeble voice finally came through: "Uh, why did you stop talking?"
"…Didn't you tell me not to interrupt?" Arthur replied helplessly. This kid was all gloom and doom in the movies, but now that he'd met him in real life, he seemed to have a streak of clueless absurdity.
"Alright then, listen carefully to what I'm about to say." Harry took a deep breath and continued, "Here's what I think: you're a superhero— a true superhero. You saved my life and scoffed at my wealth, which made me realize just how noble and selfless your soul truly is…"
Arthur felt secondhand embarrassment just listening to this. He had no idea how Harry managed to say such things with a straight face.
"…Although saving my life might not mean much to you," Harry said earnestly, "to me, it's everything. If I can't repay you, I will never find peace. My life belongs to you now, and I want to dedicate it to something meaningful. So, from this day forward, I'm at your service.
"I imagine, as a superhero, you must lack funds and information, right? Starting today, I'm turning the entire OsCorp Industry into your support system. Everything you need— gear, operational bases, funding— I'll provide it all!"
By the time he finished, Harry sounded thoroughly satisfied with himself. "In short, I will be your strongest ally!"
Arthur was stunned, feeling like the situation had spiraled out of control.
And frankly, he didn't even need this so-called "strongest ally."
"It's settled, then!"
Harry's resolute tone echoed in Arthur's ears. Startled, Arthur quickly said, "Wait… don't rush, my good man! Let's discuss this calmly!"
