Chapter 87: Chapter 087 Loki: This Is How It Feels!
After Malekith was killed, the dark elf army quickly realized something was wrong and began to retreat.
For Thor, this was the easiest battle he had ever fought. Surprisingly, there were almost no casualties in Asgard.
The only unfortunate thing was that his younger brother, Loki, had escaped from the dungeon during the chaos.
Just as Thor was still immersed in the joy of victory, an Asgardian soldier rushed over and reported, "We just discovered that the prisoner, Loki, is missing! He escaped while we were restoring order in the dungeon!"
Upon hearing this, Thor let out a helpless sigh.
After all, his brother was always causing trouble. Who knew what kind of havoc Loki would wreak now that he was free?
But catching him again wouldn't be easy. The first person Thor thought of for help was Luo Bai.
He had a feeling that if anyone could track down Loki, it was Luo Bai.
With that thought, he hurried toward Luo Bai's quarters.
However, what he didn't know was that—
At that very moment, outside Luo Bai's room—
Loki and Luo Bai were already staring at each other.
Their eyes were locked in a silent standoff for a full minute before Loki finally broke the silence.
"Oh, shit! Why do I see you everywhere I go?!" Loki groaned, clearly exasperated.
He had barely managed to escape from the dungeon, only to run straight into this bizarre sorcerer again.
What were the odds?!
Seeing Loki's reaction, Luo Bai chuckled and asked, "You don't look too happy to see me."
Loki didn't respond, but he couldn't help cursing in his mind:
Almost two hours of free fall!!!
Who the hell could be happy after that?!
Loki let out a long sigh.
He wouldn't say he hated Luo Bai, but he definitely resented him. Every encounter with Luo Bai had ended in humiliation.
And when he remembered that terrifying free fall from last time, Loki decided to be a bit more… tactful.
To avoid being thrown back into prison, Loki took the initiative to compromise.
"Your name is Luo Bai, right? The Supreme Sorcerer of Earth?"
"Yes," Luo Bai nodded.
After receiving confirmation, Loki forced a smile and said, "I think there must be some misunderstanding between us. I admit that invading Earth was a mistake. But you see, I had my reasons. You've met my brother, Thor, haven't you? What do you think of him?"
Luo Bai thought for a moment and gave an honest answer.
"He's a good person."
Unexpectedly, the next second, Loki scoffed.
"That's about the only good thing about him."
Loki shook his head dramatically before launching into a rant.
"He's reckless, impulsive, and always rushing headfirst into battle with that stupid hammer. And yet, Odin still wants him to inherit the throne of Asgard?! I strongly disagree!"
Luo Bai raised an eyebrow. "So you think you should be king instead?"
"Of course!" Loki said without hesitation. "I'm smarter and more resourceful than he'll ever be. But Odin insists on making him king! That's why I tried to rule Earth—to prove my worth!"
Luo Bai frowned. "Loki, Earth is not a place where you can just do as you please. It's not Asgard. Humans have their own way of life, their own laws. What you did wasn't just about proving a point—it was an act of war."
Loki sighed, putting on a regretful expression. "I know. I spent my time in the dungeon reflecting on my mistakes."
Luo Bai wasn't convinced. He narrowed his eyes and asked, "If you truly regret it, why did you escape?"
Loki immediately countered, "I wasn't escaping! I just don't want to stay in Asgard anymore. I refuse to accept Thor as king."
"So you still want to rule Earth?" Luo Bai pressed.
Loki shook his head helplessly. "No. You were right—Earth is different from Asgard. And with a powerful sorcerer like you protecting it, ruling Earth is impossible."
Luo Bai smirked. "That's funny. Didn't you once call me a second-rate amateur magician?"
Loki sighed dramatically. "That was before I knew you properly. Now, I've had a thorough understanding of just how terrifying you are."
Of course, Luo Bai could see Loki's thoughts clearly—courtesy of the Soul Stone's energy.
He chuckled and casually exposed Loki's real concern.
"You're just afraid I'll throw you back in the dungeon, aren't you?"
Loki's eyes flickered, but he quickly masked his expression.
"Of course not!" he said smoothly. "Since you're so reasonable, I believe we can come to an understanding. As long as you don't interfere, I'll leave Earth alone."
"Good. Then I won't bother with you," Luo Bai said indifferently.
Loki grinned. "Excellent! Then, I'll be on my way~"
He turned around and started walking away, relieved.
But after taking just two steps, something caught his eye.
Wait…
Was Luo Bai holding… Gungnir?!
Loki stopped dead in his tracks and turned back, staring at the weapon in Luo Bai's hand.
"Wait a second," he said, stepping closer. "Is that… Gungnir?"
Luo Bai glanced at the spear and nodded. "Yeah."
Loki was stunned.
His father never parted with Gungnir. It was the weapon of the King of Asgard, a symbol of Odin's divine authority.
So why the hell was it in Luo Bai's hands?!
"Why do you have Gungnir?!" Loki asked in disbelief.
Luo Bai shrugged. "When I sent you back to Asgard last time, your father gave it to me. It was his way of making sure I didn't pursue the matter of you invading Earth."
Loki was speechless.
He knew how important Gungnir was to Odin.
But this made no sense.
"You're just a sorcerer from Earth! And Odin is the King of the Gods! Why would he entrust you with Gungnir just to protect me?!"
Luo Bai smiled. "Loki, Earth is not as weak as you think. The line of sorcerers protecting Earth has existed for centuries. We have always defended this world. Even the God-King must respect the Supreme Sorcerer.
If you had carelessly invaded Earth, your father would have had to clean up your mess."
Loki fell silent, deep in thought.
After a long pause, he finally spoke again.
"I believe you," he said slowly. "My father treasures Gungnir more than anything. If he willingly gave it to you, it means he truly trusts you.
Which means… you're a friend of Asgard."
He smiled slyly. "And, well, since you're a friend of Asgard, I believe we could be friends too."
Luo Bai nearly laughed.
If he hadn't read Loki's mind, he might have believed that.
But knowing what Loki was really thinking…
Luo Bai sighed. "You want my help in taking the throne from Thor, don't you?"
Loki didn't even bother denying it.
"Of course! If I become king, I can offer you far more benefits than that muscle-brained oaf ever could!"
Luo Bai smirked. "Oh? And how exactly do you plan to help me?"
"Asgard will always support you, as long as you desire it." Loki spread his arms and spoke with a smile.
Luo Bai shook his head and declined, "I don't see how I would benefit from that, so I'll pass."
Saying that, he turned to leave.
Unexpectedly, Loki called out the next second, "Wait! I think we can negotiate further. I know you may not want to get involved in our internal conflicts, but what if you teach me your magic instead? In exchange, I'll agree to anything you ask."
"Are you referring to portal magic?" Luo Bai asked.
Loki eagerly nodded. "Yes!"
Luo Bai hesitated. He knew the bigger picture.
Loki wasn't weak—he simply hadn't awakened his true potential yet. Even he himself wasn't aware that he was the God of Stories, sitting on the Throne of Time.
That title granted him the ability to traverse time, alter narrative paths, and even connect the entire multiverse.
If Loki had been a purely evil villain, Luo Bai wouldn't have hesitated to reject him outright. But the fact that Loki had been willing to sacrifice himself in the past proved that, deep down, he wasn't truly wicked.
Teaching him portal magic—a relatively basic spell—was a small price to pay for securing the promise of the God of Stories.
"I know my reputation isn't great," Loki admitted. "They say I'm the God of Mischief, a liar, a deceiver… but I swear, I'm serious this time. I swear on my brother Thor, the God of Thunder!"
Luo Bai blinked. "...Are you serious?"
Realizing his mistake, Loki shrugged. "Sorry, force of habit. What I mean is—I won't go back on my word."
Luo Bai wasn't worried about broken promises. After all, luck had always been on his side.
Smiling, he replied, "Alright, I believe you. I can teach you how to teleport."
He then explained the technique and handed Loki a Sling Ring.
"With this, and the method I just taught you, you should pick it up quickly."
Loki, already proficient in magic, adapted swiftly. After a few attempts, he successfully opened a portal.
Watching his progress, Luo Bai couldn't help but sigh. "You're quite talented."
"Of course." Loki smirked proudly.
Luo Bai smiled and cautioned, "I advise against using this trick on me. It won't end well for you."
Loki immediately denied it. "What? No! I wouldn't dare use it against you!"
After all, Luo Bai had taught him the spell. If Luo Bai could teach it, that meant he also knew how to counter it. Loki wasn't foolish enough to challenge that.
Besides, Odin had entrusted Gungnir to Luo Bai, proving his father's immense trust in him. Building a good relationship with Luo Bai could be beneficial.
With that in mind, Loki quickly added, "We're friends now! I wouldn't betray you! By the way, is there anything you need from me? Just ask, and I'll help however I can."
Luo Bai thought for a moment before replying, "Not for now, but I'll let you know later. By the way, are you still planning to leave Asgard?"
"Of course not!" Loki grinned.
Knowing that Odin still valued him filled Loki with joy.
And when Loki was happy, his first instinct was to prank Thor.
He hadn't forgotten how delighted Thor had looked whenever Loki got humiliated.
Clenching his fists, Loki gritted his teeth and declared, "I've made up my mind—I'm staying in Asgard!"
"Then pass along my regards to your father. I'll be leaving now."
Luo Bai opened a portal and disappeared.
The moment he left, a familiar voice thundered through the halls.
"LOKI!!!"
That voice—Thor.
Loki turned to see his brother marching toward him, his expression fierce.
"Ah, my dear brother! How wonderful to see you!" Loki greeted with exaggerated enthusiasm.
Thor frowned, sensing something was off. But he decided to focus on the main issue.
"Loki, do you realize you're an escaped prisoner? Come back to the dungeon—now!"
"Of course, of course! I'll return to the dungeon~~" Loki said with a beaming smile.
"...????"
Thor felt something was wrong. Loki wasn't the type to surrender so easily.
Suspicious, he asked, "You're not planning to run?"
"I think I may have misunderstood our father," Loki replied smoothly. "I just spoke with Luo Bai—he made me reflect on my choices. So, I've decided to stay in Asgard."
"You met Luo Bai?"
Hearing that name, Thor visibly relaxed and even chuckled. "And he didn't do anything to you?"
"Of course not! I apologized to him. I admit my past mistakes, and we're friends now!" Loki said with a grin.
Thor blinked. "You… actually apologized to Luo Bai? You used to hate him!"
Loki shook his head. "That was all a misunderstanding. I don't care about those things anymore."
"Really?" Thor asked skeptically.
"Absolutely! Because..." Loki's lips curled into a mischievous grin as he suddenly opened a portal beneath Thor's feet.
Before Thor could react, he plummeted through.
After an unknown period of free fall, the portal reopened, and Thor was unceremoniously dumped back onto the ground.
His face was twisted in fury.
"LOKI!!!!!" Thor bellowed, gripping Mjolnir and preparing to swing.
But Loki simply smirked and said, "Thor, come on… smile!"
With that, he opened another portal beneath his brother.
And once again, Thor fell in.
"YES!! This is it! This is the feeling!! It feels amazing!! HAHAHAHA!!" Loki cackled joyfully.
Still laughing, he strolled casually back toward the dungeon.
