My Young Husband, The Assasin

Chapter 22: Shadows of past

The Ishikawa Clan is a large and well-known family in Tokyo and several other regions, not because they still have ties and relationships with the royal family from the past but because of their immense wealth. The family dominates almost every business sector. However, behind the grandeur of this family, which causes envy among outsiders, lies a dark and gloomy past known only to a few.

Kaito Ishikawa, the head of the main Ishikawa family in the eighth generation, made a breakthrough by running a dark business—not dealing in illegal goods or selling firearms, but something much more than that.

At a young age, Kaito accidentally discovered the historical record of the real Ishikawa family. In the past, they were an elite ninja clan with special abilities. Still, because they were considered dangerous and threatened the safety of the country at the time, the Emperor then ordered the Ishikawa clan to be destroyed to break the main chain of Ishikawa's power. Then, they transformed their former ninja clan into a noble clan under the Emperor's special command until now.

Through the cold hands of Kaito, trying to restore the glory of the Ishikawa clan as an honourable clan is also feared as it once was. In addition to his successful and long-established business empire, Kaito also ran another business as the leader of an elite Assassin group known among the dark world's operatives.

Kaito passed on his business to his eldest son, Ryuunosuke, and then to Ryuunosuke's eldest child, Sora. Sora was well-known for his intelligence in espionage and his skill with various sharp weapons and fire. He could be considered a genius in the history of the Ishikawa clan. However, Sora died young, at the age of eighteen, during his engagement party with one of Kaito's business associates.

That tragic event happened ten years ago when Renji was still eight years old. With his own eyes, he witnessed Sora slaughtering all the guests at the party, even his parents, Ryuunosuke and his mother, by stabbing them with a katana.

Renji still remembers vividly that night, seeing his beloved older brother covered in the blood of the people he killed.

The cold, dark eyes of that night stared sadly at little Renji, who was trembling near the bodies of his parents. From Sora's gaze, there was no trace of sadness or regret, just the look of a cold-blooded killer.

"Renji," Sora called softly, smiling the gentle smile usually reserved for his beloved younger sibling.

"Go away! Don't come near, murderer!" Renji yelled, tears streaming down his face.

Sora smiled sincerely at Renji. "I love you very much. Take care of yourself, my little brother," he said just before slashing his own throat with a sword. Renji's eyes widened in shock as he saw his brother fall to the floor, lifeless and covered in blood.

"Brother!!!" Renji screamed, reaching out to grasp his brother's fallen body.

Hearing Renji's scream, Aira immediately woke up in a panic. She rushed to turn on the bedside lamp to check on Renji. "Anata?! What's wrong?" she asked, concerned, seeing cold sweat streaming down Renji's face.

Renji's breath came in short gasps as though he had been running for a long time.

Luckily, Aira always kept a glass of water by the bedside lamp and, with great care, gave it to Renji. "Drink."

Renji drank the water in one gulp. "I feel better now." Aira gently stroked his back, trying to calm him down. "You must have had a bad dream," she said with concern.

"More than that," Renji replied, agreeing.

Renji's body was pulled into Aira's embrace. "Bad dream, go away, go away," she whispered, trying to comfort and calm him, just like a little child.

Renji's arms tightly wrapped around Aira's waist as he rested his face comfortably in her soft embrace.

Since their marriage, this was the first time Renji had dreamed of that dark event again, after so many years of being haunted by nightmares about his family's death, which always kept him from sleeping peacefully every night.

But now, Renji felt calm because Aira was by his side, giving him the warmth and peace that he desperately needed in times like this. After five minutes, Renji felt better, his breath steady, though his face still showed deep sorrow.

"Sorry for waking you up in the middle of the night," he said, gently stroking his wife's chubby cheek with regret.

Aira smiled softly in return. "It's okay, but who did you call 'brother', Anata?" Aira felt curious because Renji had never spoken about his family. She only knew that Tetsuya was Renji's only family member.

"He was my older brother," Renji explained with a sorrowful expression.

Aira's eyes gently gazed at Renji, softly brushing his raven hair. "You must miss him a lot."

"Very much. But unfortunately, Aniki is no longer here."

"How about we go to your family's grave to pray? After all, since we got married, you haven't introduced me or our future child to them," Aira said with a bright smile.

"Alright. Next month, after my business matters are settled, I will take you to my parents' and Aniki's graves." Renji pulled Aira into his embrace and kissed her forehead with love.

"Hmmm…" Aira nodded, resting her head comfortably on Renji's chest.

Like usual days, Aira woke up earlier than Renji. After washing her face and brushing her teeth, Aira immediately busied herself in the kitchen, preparing breakfast and lunch for her husband—not to eat during an office lunch break but for school recess time.

If you were to ask whether her husband was still a student?

Yes.

But this is the story of her life with the handsome young man with eyes as dark and beautiful as the night, who brought new colours and happiness to her life.

Aira didn't regret marrying Renji at all; in fact, she felt happy because her young husband loved her so much and always tried to protect her from anything.

Despite his youthful appearance, still in his teens, Renji's attitude and thoughts were mature, like those of an adult. However, he had a spoiled side and liked to pout like a child. This was something only Aira knew because it was only shown to her.

"Ngh~" Renji's body stretched on the bed, turning to his side, hoping that the beautiful angel who was his wife was still beside him, but his hand didn't reach anything.

He slowly opened his eyes, revealing his dark irises as beautiful as the night. Then, he began to sit up slowly on the king-size bed.

A few seconds later, Renji got out of bed, still wearing his pyjamas, clinging to his body, and not having washed his face at all. The first thing on his mind after waking up was to see his wife and hug her tightly. The delicious aroma of cooking filled the air as he entered the kitchen.

Renji smiled faintly as he watched the woman with indigo hair standing with her back to him, busy chopping something. He wondered what his beautiful wife would cook this morning, but whatever dish she made would always be delicious—better than a renowned chef's cooking—because it was made with love.

He walked leisurely towards her, extending his arms in front of him. "Good morning, my wife," he greeted, wrapping his arms around her from behind. Resting his sharp nose in the crook of her neck, he inhaled the scent of her body, which always brought him peace and comfort.

Aira's cheeks flushed red, and her lips wanted to protest, but she couldn't, knowing this wasn't the first time something like this had happened—it had become a habit for Renji.

"It's still morning, Renji-kun!" she protested in a soft voice, though it was still loud enough for Renji to hear.

"Morning or night, it doesn't matter to me because, at any time, I always want to hug you," he replied casually, still clinging to her affectionately.

Aira smiled shyly and was annoyed at the same time because her husband could flirt and speak sweetly like an adult even though he was still in his teens. Yet, he was so skilled at treating a woman. She wanted to ask where Renji had learned all of this.

"I can't cook if you keep sticking to me like this," Aira sighed as Renji continued to cling to her like a koala, not willing to let go.

"I'll let go if you give me a good morning kiss," he teased with a playful tone.

"Renji-kun!" Aira exclaimed, her face turning red, as he still found ways to get what he wanted.

"Well, then I'll just stay like this," Renji said, tightening his embrace, making it harder for Aira to move.

Aira quickly sighed, rolling her eyes in boredom. "Close your eyes," she said, surrendering.

Renji smiled triumphantly. "Hmm," he replied, sticking his lips out. Aira quickly turned her body and gave Renji a quick kiss on the lips, not even lasting a second.

Renji's face showed disappointment. "Do it again," he asked, his tone demanding.

"Hah!?" Aira exclaimed, confused.

"Kiss me again," Renji said, still demanding.

"I already did," Aira groaned, not wanting to repeat what had just happened—not because she didn't like it, but because she was embarrassed.

"That wasn't a kiss. It was just a peck," he protested, tapping Aira's lips with his finger.

"What's the difference?" Aira asked, puzzled because, to her, it seemed the same.

"It's different," Renji answered quickly, still protesting and insisting that Aira repeat it, his spoiled and sulking side showing.

"What's the difference?" Aira asked again, growing more confused.

Sometimes, this kind of situation would happen, where Renji's spoiled side would appear, leaving Aira frustrated and confused. She would have to interpret and fulfil his request, especially when his overprotective side showed up as well. Aira wanted to scream.

Renji grinned, making Aira feel uneasy, and the next moment, Aira's lips were captured in his.

"Hhmphh..." Aira's hand gripped the front of Renji's pyjamas tightly. He slipped his tongue into her mouth, leading her into a passionate dance. Twenty seconds later, Renji released her lips, with strands of saliva connecting them.

Her chubby cheeks were now as red and puffed up as a pufferfish, showing that she was both annoyed and embarrassed. "That's what you call a kiss, darling," Renji said casually, commenting on Aira's cute and endearing reaction.

Then Aira lightly hit his right shoulder. "Pervert!"

A small laugh adorned Renji's handsome face.

For Renji, spending his days with Aira was so enjoyable. Many interesting things have happened since they got married. Although it was just the two of them, his life felt vibrant, unlike before when many servants and guards surrounded him and his late father's family. That never made him feel happy or comfortable in the grand house, which to Renji felt like hell.

Renji's decision to leave the house and live on his own was the right choice because it allowed him to meet Aira again, the girl who had been in his thoughts for years and had filled the space in his heart.

For Renji, who had lost both his parents and his older brother, Aira was his only family and the most important person, as she was the centre of his world. He would do anything to protect her, to keep her safe from harm, even if it meant getting his hands dirty with blood.

After cleaning up and changing clothes, Renji went back to the kitchen—not to tease Aira—but to have breakfast together.

"Why haven't you put on your uniform yet?" Aira asked, looking at Renji, puzzled, from top to bottom.

"School's off today," Renji answered as he moved toward the dining table.

"You're not lying to me, are you, Renji-kun?" she asked.

He pinched Aira's nose playfully. "Of course not. How could I lie to an angel as beautiful as you?"

Aira's cheeks flushed again. "Y-you really like to tease me."

Renji just smiled in response.

"Today, what will my beautiful wife cook?" he asked, waiting for Aira to serve him food.

"Omurice," Aira replied as she served the dish to Renji, who was already seated.

Renji picked up a spoon from the side of his plate and began eating his breakfast, calmly enjoying Aira's cooking, which tasted delicious.

"My wife," Renji called in the middle of his meal.

"Yes?" Aira replied, turning to look at him.

"Would you like to go to the amusement park with me today?"

Aira furrowed her brow, looking at Renji meaningfully. "Is it okay for a pregnant woman to walk around there and go on the rides?" she asked, checking.

Renji paused for a moment, suddenly remembering that his wife was a few months pregnant. The doctor had also told her not to overexert herself or engage in dangerous activities because it wouldn't be good for the pregnancy, especially at the amusement park, where many rides wouldn't be suitable for a pregnant woman.

"Renji-kun!" Aira called, worried, seeing that Renji seemed lost in thought.

"Ah~ sorry. How about we go watch a movie instead?" Renji suggested.

"Well, to make it more fun, I want to invite Saki-chan too..."

"Don't!"

"Why?" Aira's face showed disappointment.

"I want us to go, just the two of us because we've never gone to a movie together or taken a walk together since we got married."

Aira paused for a moment and then smiled gently. "Alright."
