Chapter 136: Chapter 136: Rouran Ruins

Upon returning to the village, TenTen learned it had been two days since Kirito had received his latest mission.

When TenTen heard Kirito planned to invite her on the mission and even had a special gift for her, she was filled with excitement and anticipation.

As for the mission itself, TenTen felt confident. In her experience, Kirito was unstoppable when it came to combat-related tasks.

At Ichiraku Ramen Shop, the two sat side by side, enjoying steaming bowls of ramen as they chatted.

"Rouran? I've never heard of it," TenTen remarked, reflecting on the mission's destination. "What kind of place is it?"

"It's a desert country that once thrived on the power of the Dragon Vein," Kirito explained. "However, after the Dragon Vein was sealed, the country fell into decline, and its inhabitants became wanderers."

Kirito's understanding of Rouran was limited, mostly derived from Konoha's official records. Decades of decline had rendered much of the information incomplete.

"I wonder what we'll find there—and what this special gift is…" TenTen said, flashing Kirito a sly smile.

"You'll find out later. For now, it's a secret."

"Alright, I'll wait and see!" TenTen responded cheerfully. "I just hope there are some unique weapons or tools in the ancient ruins."

Knowing TenTen would return to the village that day, Kirito treated her to ramen, giving her time to relax before their departure the next morning.

Despite the long journey ahead, the mission's pressure felt manageable, and TenTen needed only one night's rest to prepare.

The Journey to Rouran

Days later, cloaked and hooded, Kirito and TenTen trudged through the unforgiving desert winds of the Land of Wind.

Amid the swirling sandstorm, Kirito strode forward with steady determination. TenTen followed closely behind, step by step.

"Should I disperse the sandstorm? It might make things easier," Kirito offered.

His voice carried clearly through the storm, reaching TenTen without difficulty.

TenTen shook her head. "No, I've got this. I said I wanted to push through on my own."

Earlier, Kirito had suggested they wait out the storm, but TenTen saw it as an opportunity to challenge herself. With the Rouran ruins nearby, she proposed continuing to reach their destination before nightfall.

Kirito agreed without hesitation. While such storms could be life-threatening for ordinary travelers, experienced ninjas like them faced minimal risk. Kirito's only concern was TenTen's comfort.

Her resolve surprised him. She had donned sunglasses and a mask, flashing him a thumbs-up before charging into the storm. For TenTen, crossing the sandstorm was an exercise in endurance and discipline.

"If Guy-sensei or Rock Lee were here, they'd probably turn this into a race," TenTen thought with amusement.

While inspired by her teammates' relentless drive, TenTen preferred a more balanced approach, avoiding their extremes.

As the storm's intensity grew, her pace slowed. Just as she felt she had reached her limit, Kirito's voice cut through the storm: "We're here."

Rouran Ruins

Under the vast expanse of a starry sky, the two stood before a desolate, half-buried ruin in the desert.

The cracked, weathered ground stretched out before them, surrounded by remnants of crumbling walls and collapsed roofs—silent reminders of Rouran's former glory.

"Is this Rouran?" TenTen asked, pulling back her hood to take in the sight. "It doesn't seem like much is left."

Even she doubted whether any weapons or tools could have survived the harsh desert conditions over the years.

Kirito activated his Byakugan, scanning the area. "Our target lies underground—the Dragon Vein."

"Now that we're here," TenTen inquired, "how do we find it?"

Kirito smiled faintly. "Consider this mission an extraordinary adventure."

TenTen raised an eyebrow. "What makes the Dragon Vein so mysterious?"

Kirito sidestepped the question, changing the topic. "It seems we're not the first ones to arrive."

Suddenly, a clay puppet burst from the ground, wielding a sharp weapon aimed at Kirito.

With a single, fluid motion, Kirito shattered the puppet into fragments.

More clay puppets emerged, advancing on them.

"Finally, some action!" TenTen exclaimed, unrolling a scroll and summoning an array of blades.

She launched kunai with pinpoint precision, striking the advancing puppets with lethal accuracy.

"If they're made of clay, lightning's the quickest solution!" TenTen declared, crossing the Lightning Blades in her hands.

Channeling her chakra, sparks of dazzling lightning coursed through the weapons. "Lightning Style: Thunder Lightning Strike!"

The kunai embedded in the puppets served as conductors, directing the lightning and reducing the constructs to rubble in moments.

Turning to Kirito with a triumphant smile, TenTen asked, "So? Have I improved?"

Kirito nodded approvingly. "Without a doubt. You're well on your way to becoming a legendary kunoichi."

Though pleased, TenTen muttered, "Why does it sound like you're teasing me…"

"Not at all. That's just my natural charm," Kirito teased in return.

The Hidden Chamber

Sharing a laugh, the two descended into a vast underground hall. At its center stood an altar etched with intricate sealing techniques, a kunai embedded in its core.

A gaunt, pale figure stood before the altar, his back turned to them.

"You're too late," the man announced as he turned to face them, his eerie presence radiating malice.

"I've already mastered the technique to harness the Dragon Vein's chakra for my puppets. With its limitless energy, I'll achieve invincibility!"

"That must be Mukade," TenTen said, her tone skeptical.

Kirito nodded. "Exactly. And we'll need his cooperation for the next step."

As the two conferred in hushed tones, Mukade continued his tirade. "I may not have fully unsealed the Dragon Vein, but I've discovered how to unleash it's power! Witness my ascension!"
