Chapter 137: Chapter 137: Traveling Through Time and Space
When Kirito and TenTen remained unresponsive to his provocations, even Mukade, long accustomed to solitude, felt a flicker of unease. Regardless of their intentions, Mukade knew he had to act immediately to secure his plan.
Originally, Mukade intended to study the Dragon Vein's seal gradually, dismantling it with care and eventually absorbing its power in full. However, with Kirito and TenTen's unexpected arrival, his carefully laid plans were disrupted. Even if he managed to repel them, he knew Sunagakure's forces would not be far behind.
Though confident in his puppet techniques and the latent power of the Dragon Vein, Mukade was not ready to face an entire village without fully integrating its chakra. His only viable option now was a desperate one—to release and absorb the Dragon Vein's energy immediately.
Approaching the altar cautiously, Mukade kept one eye on Kirito and TenTen. He reached for the Flying Thunder God Kunai embedded in the seal, a tool left by the Fourth Hokage to reinforce the barrier.
"Once I've harnessed the Dragon Vein's power, not even the Five Great Nations will stand against me!" Mukade proclaimed, pulling the kunai free.
The moment the kunai was removed, the hall shuddered violently, and the sealing patterns on the floor flared with a brilliant purple light.
Watching the scene unfold, TenTen turned to Kirito, concern etched on her face. "Are you sure we should just let this happen?"
Under normal circumstances, she would have acted, but she trusted Kirito's judgment.
"It's fine," Kirito assured her. "The worst-case scenario is the Dragon Vein going berserk or Mukade losing control. Either way, I can handle it. For now, let him show us the way forward."
"The way forward?" TenTen asked, puzzled.
As Mukade continued to absorb the Dragon Vein's chakra, the sealing patterns transferred onto his body, glowing intensely.
"Yes! Such power—" Mukade began, but his triumph was short-lived. The unsealed chakra surged violently, engulfing him in a radiant explosion of light.
"That…!" TenTen exclaimed as Mukade vanished within the energy. Before she could act, Kirito grasped her hand.
"Now's the moment," he said firmly, pulling her toward the raging Dragon Vein.
"Wait, what?!" TenTen barely had time to protest before they stepped into the blinding light.
Awakening in a Different Time
TenTen awoke to a gentle warmth on her forehead. Opening her eyes, she saw Kirito's hand retreating.
"Awake?" he asked, his smile teasing. "Congratulations—you're now a charming little boy."
Flustered, TenTen immediately checked herself before realizing Kirito was joking. She punched his arm. "Idiot! Don't scare me like that."
Kirito chuckled. "How do you feel? Any discomfort?"
TenTen sat up, memories of the Dragon Vein's light rushing back. "I'm fine," she replied, glancing around at their surroundings. "Where are we? Inside the Dragon Vein?"
"No," Kirito answered. "We're still in Rouran."
"Rouran?" TenTen repeated, rising to her feet. "But it looks so… different."
Her confusion was justified. The desolate ruins she remembered were replaced by a vibrant cityscape of lush greenery and towering structures. It was an entirely different Rouran.
"This," Kirito explained, "is Rouran more than 20 years ago."
"Twenty years ago?!" TenTen exclaimed, stunned.
Kirito nodded. "We've traveled through time. The Dragon Vein's chakra made it possible."
Though skeptical, TenTen followed Kirito as they wandered the streets, marveling at the city's prime. The vibrant architecture contrasted starkly with the ruins they'd left behind. Yet, something felt off.
"Where is everyone?" TenTen asked after knocking on several unresponsive shop doors.
Kirito pointed toward the city center. "It seems there's a gathering. Let's head that way."
When they reached the central square, they found it teeming with people. Cheers and fireworks filled the air as the crowd's attention focused on a grand balcony.
"My Lady Queen!" the crowd chanted enthusiastically.
"It's so lively!" TenTen said, her excitement evident. "Let's get closer."
On the balcony, a regal figure emerged—a young woman adorned in elegant attire. The crowd erupted into cheers.
"Is that the queen?" TenTen asked, impressed. "She's stunning!"
Her admiration turned to alarm as she noticed a puppet behind the queen. "Wait… That puppet looks like Mukade's clay constructs!"
Before she could act, the queen stumbled, and the balcony railing gave way. She plummeted toward the ground.
"Watch out!" TenTen shouted, preparing to intervene.
Before she could move, a shadow darted forward, catching the queen mid-fall and vanishing into a nearby building.
TenTen stared in shock. "That person… they looked just like Naruto!"
