Chapter 36: Tactic for the game (2)
Kay and the other players sat in the waiting room, trying to imagine what was happening in the game.
They had no way of knowing what Team 1 and Team 4 were experiencing, but judging by the seriousness of the tournament, it was clear that this wasn't going to be a simple competition.
The night passed, and the next morning, while Kay was deep in sleep, the same strange music played from the speakers, waking everyone up.
It was the same robotic and emotionless melody, signaling that a new day had begun.
As the players slowly got up and prepared themselves, the Marowak-masked man appeared once more, standing in the center of the room.
His cold, commanding voice echoed through the air as he made an announcement.
"The first match of the first game has officially ended."
A few moments later, Alakazam appeared out of nowhere, just like before. However, this time, it wasn't alone. Standing beside it were nine players; five from Team 1 and four from Team 4.
As soon as Kay saw their faces, he felt a chill run down his spine. Their expressions were empty, their eyes wide with horror, as if they had just survived a nightmare. Some of them were even trembling.
The masked man continued, his voice unwavering. "Team 1 has won the match."
Just as he finished speaking, one of the members from Team 4 suddenly shouted, his voice filled with anger and fear.
"You tricked us! You didn't tell us we would face such hell!"
Another player from Team 4 immediately followed up, his tone just as desperate.
"I even lost my Pokemon! You told us we just had to catch a fast Pokemon, but what we found there was terrific, we found—"
Before he could finish his sentence, the masked man's hand moved quickly, grabbing a Pokeball from his coat.
With a swift flick of his wrist, he released a Marowak.
The moment it appeared, an overwhelming killing intent filled the room. The air grew heavier, and Kay felt his body tense up as an invisible pressure pressed down on him.
The complaining player's words instantly died in his throat. He staggered back, sweat dripping from his forehead. His body froze in place as if he had just seen death itself.
The masked man spoke again, his voice even colder than before.
"I'm afraid that if you continue talking, you might reveal secrets about the game. That would be unfair to the other players, as it could ruin the equality of opportunities."
He let his words hang in the air for a moment before adding with a sinister edge, "I'm sure you don't want to lose more than just a Pokemon."
Silence filled the room. No one dared to speak.
Kay clenched his fists. He didn't know what had happened in that match, but one thing was certain, this game was far more dangerous than they had been led to believe.
A man stepped forward, his voice tense with concern, and asked about the players who hadn't returned from the first game. The room fell silent as everyone waited for the masked man's answer.
Without hesitation, the masked man replied in a cold, emotionless tone, "They were killed in the game."
His words sent a wave of shock through the remaining players. Some gasped, while others exchanged nervous glances.
After the masked man saw the players' reaction, he added coldly, "But don't worry; the compensation will definitely be sent to their family."
The air grew heavier. This game was far more dangerous than they had imagined.
The masked man, then continued, "Now, the teams that will participate in the next match should step forward and stand beside Alakazam."
Kay and his teammates took a deep breath before stepping forward. The members of Team 3 also moved into position, standing opposite them. Both teams now stood near Alakazam.
The powerful Psychic-type Pokemon's eyes glowed, and within seconds, Team 3, along with the masked man, vanished in a flash of light.
The remaining players waited in uneasy silence. Five minutes later, Alakazam and the masked man reappeared, alone. Now, it was Kay's team's turn.
Alakazam's eyes glowed once again, and suddenly, Kay felt the strange sensation of his body being pulled through space.
His vision blurred, and for a brief moment, he felt weightless. Then, in an instant, he and his teammates appeared in a completely different location.
As soon as Kay looked around, he was stunned by the sheer size of the island. It stretched far into the distance, with towering cliffs, dense forests, and rocky plateaus scattered across the landscape.
The air smelled of salt and fresh greenery, and in the far distance, he could see the vast ocean surrounding the island.
The masked man stood before them and began to speak, his voice clear and commanding.
"This is an island where a gate appeared but wasn't conquered until Pokemons began to go out. When we found out about this island, we began using it for our games. The other team has been teleported to the opposite side of the island. You will not know their exact location, so be prepared."
He then revealed an important detail about their objective.
"The Pokemon you must catch will have a red mark painted on its body. You may encounter many Aerodactyls, but capturing the wrong one will not grant you victory. Only the one with the red mark counts."
Kay nodded as he listened carefully. That meant they had to be extra cautious and make sure they weren't wasting their efforts on the wrong Pokemon.
The masked man continued, "The organizers have already eliminated all Pokemons above the Superior Steel stage, so you won't face anything too strong."
"However," the man added with a slight pause, "We have left only one Pokemon at the Inferior Bronze stage on this island. If you are unfortunate enough to encounter it, you'd better pray."
A shiver ran down Kay's spine. An Inferior Bronze stage Pokemon is so hard to beat especially since their Pokemons were all in the Steel stage.
The masked man then reached into his pocket and took out a small device with two buttons; one red, one green. He handed it to the man with the number five on his shirt, the Onix trainer.
"This device serves two purposes: press the green button if you catch the correct Pokemon and want to continue playing. If you wish to end the game immediately, press the red button."
Then the masked man gave a bag to all the players and said, "Inside this bag, you would find some potions to use if your Pokemons were injured"
Finally, the masked man gave them one last instruction.
"You cannot teleport back to the base before 24 hours have passed. So, whether you choose to end the game or not, you will remain on this island for an entire day."
After finishing his explanation, he took a step back.
"That's all you need to know for now."
As soon as the masked man finished speaking, he and Alakazam disappeared in a flash of light, teleporting back to the base.
Now, Kay and his team were alone on the island, with nothing but their Pokemons and their plan to rely on.
For a moment, they all stood in silence, taking in their surroundings. The distant sounds of waves crashing against the cliffs echoed in the background.
Then, the man wearing the number 33 spoke up.
"We need to modify the plan, a lot of things have changed."
Everyone turned to him, listening carefully.
"Our original plan was to leave Ponyta alone as bait, but there's a problem. If we do that, wild Pokemons will attack it before the other team even gets close."
The team exchanged worried looks. That was true, there were wild Pokemons on this island, and some of them might attack Ponyta before the plan even had a chance to work.
"So, what should we do?" the trainer of Ponyta asked.
Number 33 took a deep breath and said, "I propose that we do not leave Ponyta alone until we are absolutely sure the other team is nearby. For that, Pidgey will play an even bigger role in our strategy."
He turned to the trainer of Pidgey. "Pidgey will survey the other team, track their movements, and tell us when they're getting close. Only then will we set up the trap."
The trainer of Pidgey hesitated, then shook his head. "I'm not sending Pidgey alone."
Kay nodded in agreement. "Then we stick to our original plan for the investigation team. Pidgey, Eevee, and Machop will work together to track the enemy. That way, if they run into trouble, they won't be completely defenseless."
The trainer of Pidgey looked relieved. "Alright, I agree with that."
The plan was settled. Pidgey, Eevee, and Machop, the investigation team, set out immediately, heading into the dense jungle to search for the other team.
