"It turns out that's what happened, huh? You guys are quite bold. Those biker gangs have a lot of people, and even with all of you, you'd barely be enough to fill their teeth. Still, it's lucky that neither you nor your Pokémon got hurt."
Hearing that Eileen and her group had naively joined a crowd of ordinary trainers to force their way through the bike highway controlled by the biker gang, Sato couldn't help but shake his head, his expression somewhat speechless.
Eileen blushed at his comment.
Truthfully, she had opposed the idea at the time, but in the end, her own greed to save a few thousand PokeDollars by using the toll-free bike highway to get to Slateport City had led her into trouble.
As a result, not only did she lose all her money, but she also had to deal with the consequences.
"By the way, Mr. Sato, I saw your battle in LaRousse City. It was amazing—ten consecutive wins! And then you defeated that other strong trainer who was also on a ten-win streak. Oh, can you show me your Marshtomp? I'm a huge fan of his! His fighting style is just so cool and inspiring!"
Trying to shake off her embarrassment, Eileen quickly changed the subject. Her demeanor suddenly shifted, her face lighting up with excitement as she looked at Sato with starry eyes.
Her Chansey mirrored her enthusiasm, eagerly looking at Sato as well.
"Uh, haha, really? Well, my Marshtomp has already evolved. He's now a Swampert. Alright, come out, Swampert—here are two of your fans."
Seeing Eileen and her Chansey suddenly transform into ardent fans, Sato twitched slightly but managed a smile. He retrieved Swampert's PokéBall and released him.
In the next moment, Swampert's towering, muscular figure appeared before Eileen and her Chansey.
Hearing Sato mention that these two smaller beings were his fans, Swampert was visibly pleased. He flexed his muscles, making himself look even more imposing and manly.
Eileen and Chansey, seeing their idol now so tall, robust, and powerful, grew even more starstruck, their eyes sparkling as they immediately began giving Swampert a thorough massage.
Their massage techniques were evidently far beyond Sato's ability. Swampert was so relaxed he nearly let out a groan.
Feeling pampered by his two fans, Swampert scratched his head sheepishly, a bit embarrassed.
Swampert's fanbase was surprisingly large. Trainers resting or waiting for their Pokémon to recover overheard the conversation and, after seeing Swampert in person, several young trainers—around ten years old—also rushed over.
They gazed at Swampert with awe and admiration, like fans meeting their idol.
"Who would've thought this guy was so popular? What about me, his trainer? I deserve some recognition too, don't I? Sigh... It seems people favor Pokémon over humans."
Sato felt a bit unbalanced as he watched seven or eight fans, including a few pretty girls, fawn over Swampert, while he stood there largely ignored.
Soon, the waiting hall echoed with an announcement calling Sato to the front desk to pick up his Growlithe and Beautifly. He promptly headed over and retrieved his two Pokémon.
When Sato returned, Swampert was facing off against a sharply dressed young trainer and a snarling Feraligatr.
Several trainers, seemingly the young man's entourage, had separated Eileen and the other fans from Swampert and were subtly surrounding him with their Pokémon.
The air was tense, charged with an impending sense of battle.
"What's going on? Do you all have a death wish or something? Hah?!"
Seeing his Swampert surrounded, Sato's expression immediately darkened. He strode over, his face stern as he addressed the young trainer.
"Swamp!"
Relieved to see Sato return, Swampert's previously tense demeanor relaxed.
He quickly moved to Sato's side and cast a disdainful look at the Feraligatr, whose right arm hung limp.
Sato's commanding presence was palpable. Having recently led a decisive victory in a large-scale battle, his aura as a seasoned, strong trainer was even more intimidating.
His arrival caused the young trainer and his entourage to feel immense pressure, their expressions shifting dramatically.
"A misunderstanding—a complete misunderstanding! Hello, I'm Karu. I just wanted to spar with your Swampert earlier, nothing more. I had no intention of harming him. I deeply apologize for my earlier rudeness."
The young trainer, who introduced himself as Karu, was evidently not an ordinary figure. Despite his earlier arrogance, he quickly adapted, putting on a bright, apologetic smile.
He recalled his Level 40 Feraligatr and had his entourage withdraw their Pokémon as well.
"Is that so? Since Swampert's unharmed, let's chalk this up to a misunderstanding. I'm new around here and don't want any trouble. But if anyone dares provoke me, I won't fucking take it lying down. Do you understand?"
Sato first checked with Swampert to ensure he was unscathed. Once he received a reassuring response, he turned back to Karu, his gaze sharp and menacing.
"Of course, I understand. This was my fault. Please accept this small token as an apology—let's consider it a gesture of friendship, okay?"
Karu, eager to de-escalate the situation, smiled even more brightly. At his signal, one of his entourage stepped forward, carrying a thick briefcase.
The case was opened slightly, revealing neatly stacked bundles of 1,000 PokeDollar bills. A rough estimate put the total at about 2 million PokeDollars.
Money delivered to his doorstep was not something Sato would refuse, especially since this amount didn't mean much to him. His expression remained neutral as he accepted the case, a faint trace of disdain flashing in his eyes.
He waved dismissively, indicating Karu could leave.
Karu noticed Sato's slight contempt but wasn't offended. Instead, he felt frustrated at his own lack of foresight.
As he departed, Karu couldn't help but speculate about Sato's background, pondering how best to truly make amends. As the heir to a wealthy real estate mogul in Slateport City, he understood all too well how dangerous people like Sato could be.
"Mr. Sato, that guy lied. He was actually trying to capture Swampert earlier, thinking it was alone! Luckily, Swampert is strong. That Feraligatr couldn't handle him and even got its arm broken."
After Karu left, Eileen, who had been anxiously observing the situation, quickly approached with Chansey and quietly shared the truth with Sato.
