Reincarnated as a Doomed Extra

Chapter 20: The Game’s Other Protagonist

In an office room, an old man sat tiredly in his office chair. His long white hair was styled to fall back in a cascade.

On the desk, several photos were placed, depicting a family consisting of a mother and father with two bright children.

The academy director looked at the photos with a tender expression, recalling vivid scenes of his lively grandchildren in his mind. He wanted to go back to them and hug them instead of wasting his time on this office nonsense.

Searching for an excuse to get out of the work he had, he ended up with a simple and suitable solution.

-Knock-knock.

The knocks on the door echoed before it opened and a girl entered.

"Did you call me, Director?" the girl spoke.

She was wearing a neatly tailored white school uniform with long sleeves and long pants covering her feet completely.

On her left arm, a red armband was placed with a golden and black ornate crown symbol.

The director nodded, still gazing at the photos on his desk, and pointed to the chair opposite him, allowing the girl to sit.

"Well…? What is it?" the girl asked confusedly, tilting her head.

"You know I'm a busy man, don't you?" he asked, tiredness evident in his voice. "Fake" tiredness.

The girl nodded hesitantly in response, confused by his sudden openness.

"Well, the thing is, I'm too busy to welcome the new students. So Sylvorine, would you open the entrance ceremony instead of me?"

When looking for a suitable person for this task, the director didn't waste much time searching and took Sylvorine immediately.

Sylvorine was not only the daughter of a respectable duke, but also a third-year student and the student council president.

Not to mention how beloved she was by everyone. Whether it was male or female students, and even the teachers themselves.

In everyone's eyes, Sylvorine was perfect.

From her short, pale white hair that curled slightly down to the ends and framed her face that seemed sculpted by a perfection-obsessed sculptor, to her pale blue eyes that reflected a clear and beautiful sky.

Although the director found her ever-present perfect smile alarming and sometimes gave a feeling of something being wrong, he ignored those feelings in order to get time with his lovely grandchildren.

And more than that, he trusted the girl because of her efficiency as the student council president.

Sylvorine's perfect lips parted as she spoke the sweetest words the director had heard all year, "Of course. Leave it to me."

After we finished the Magical Section test, Solon told me that he had finished the Physical test, which made us go to the hall where the entrance ceremony would be held.

However, as we walked…

"Bro, why didn't you tell me about that before?"

"Hehe. It was your fault for underestimating Selas."

"It wasn't underestimation, just unexpected!"

"Okay, okay. Shut up. My God, are you kids or what?"

I interrupted their childish chatter because it would have continued for many minutes if I hadn't.

"That's because you didn't tell—"

I grabbed Ned's collar and pulled him towards me threateningly, "Will you shut up?"

My voice came out colder than I expected.

"…"

"…"

They both fell silent after that, and we continued walking through the complex corridors, trying to reach the hall.

"….Use your watches to get to the hall…" I spoke in a low voice.

Getting to the hall through this maze of corridors was a pain in the ass. Fortunately, we got enchanted wristwatches as soon as we finished our tests.

It was strange to see that what was supposed to be the screen was a flat mass of condensed mana. Not to mention that its color was completely blue, which made its shape even stranger to me.

Anyway, I didn't complain about it anymore because as soon as you pressed it, the cheaper version of the status screen would appear.

I can say they put a great effort into making this thing…

It also displayed all the information recorded about me at the academy. From the background to what I can do as an Awakened.

"Here. This is the place." Ned spoke, showing his screen.

I ignored the lack of former friendliness in his voice and approached him to take a quick look at the place before immediately walking towards the hall.

As I walked forward, I heard Solon's whispering voice behind me.

"Um. He's not usually like this really…I rarely see him get angry…"

Angry?

I wasn't really angry, but I didn't waste my time explaining and kept walking forward.

After five minutes of twisting and turning in the maze of corridors, we reached a noisy and crowded place. At this time, Solon and Ned's annoying chatter returned in the background as if nothing had happened.

We entered through the crowd and reached a very large arena. Almost like a giant theater.

Thousands of seats were arranged in a semi-circular shape, ending at what appeared to be the stage.

"The director might come at any moment, you two." I spoke, pulling Solon and Ned with me to one of the front seats.

I wanted that old man to take a good look at Solon after all.

Despite what happened with the saintess, that old man is too smart to judge Solon from that.

As soon as we sat down, I was surprised to find an unexpected person next to us.

Liam.

"Hmm? What's wrong?" Solon asked confusedly, sitting one seat away from Liam.

"…"

Great…

I never expected in my whole life to witness something like this…

The protagonist and the antagonist sitting next to each other normally.

Suddenly, all the lights turned on, illuminating the place.

I quickly snapped out of my daze and sat between Solon and Liam.

-Tap-Tap

The sound of quiet footsteps echoed on the wooden stage floor.

And then she appeared…

The perfect definition of perfection.

As soon as the student council president appeared on the stage, the students everywhere went crazy and the whole space filled with noise.

-"But where's the director?"

-"Would you prefer to be welcomed by an old man with wrinkled skin or a goddess walking on earth?"

-"…"

-"I love you, president!"

-"Please step on me, madam!"

Confessions and weird fetishes flew in the air like bullets.

In response, Sylvorine smiled and waved her hand towards the enthusiastic audience. Her angelic smile made the flames ignite in the eyes of every male student and increased the absurdity of what they were saying.

With a smile, she grabbed a small button and placed it in front of her mouth. "Okay, okay. This is the enthusiasm I expect from the newcomers."

Her voice echoed everywhere and reached everyone's ears.

"First of all, let me introduce myself to those who don't know. I'm Sylvorine Evelyn Hayes. A third-year student and the student council president."

And she continued.

"Today, I welcome all the newcomers to the place where you will spend the coming years in the pursuit of knowledge, improving yourselves, and leaving your mark on the world."

"Some of you may now be worried about standing at the threshold of an unknown future, but know this, everyone among us started with the same first steps you are taking today."

"The difference between those who succeed and stumble is not in talent alone, but in perseverance, in the courage to face challenges, and in the ability to rise from every fall."

"I, and all the student council members, are not just observers. We are here to maintain order, to help you adapt, and to make sure this environment remains productive and fair."

After giving her speech, she started explaining most of the important rules and regulations that students must adhere to within the academy grounds.

Throughout this time, I stared at her in awe.

I ignored the fact that she was the one welcoming us instead of the director.

I ignored the fact that she was the other protagonist I knew nothing about.

I only focused on her perfect face.

Her smile in particular was what caught my attention.

It was too perfect to be a real smile.

Just like my smile…

After she almost reached the end of her speech, she looked to the side of the seats where I was sitting and…

Winked.

A wink that sent many collapsing to the ground.

A wink that even the girls couldn't escape.

-"Kyaaah. She winked!"

-"She winked at me. I swear she winked at me!"

-"Are you blind? She clearly winked at me!"

I froze in place and covered my nose with my arm.

"Are you okay?" Solon asked me.

"Man, he can't be blamed. Even I fell in love with her. The student council president is the perfect definition of a powerful and famous woman." Ned spoke enthusiastically.

Upon hearing his response, Solon was lost in thought before looking at me with wide eyes of fear.

But it was too late.

I… I saw it clearly.

That wink…

'She winked at me…'

That was the only thought that settled in my head as blood flowed from my nose.
