Chapter 522: 521: Gaze
'Goliathspawns huh… Well, that's new.'
Corey gazed at the tens of Goliathspawns around them, and he could not help but furrow his brows slightly.
The first time Corey noticed the presence of thousands of Goliathspawns and the crystal Goliathspawn, he did not feel threatened by them in the slightest.
Although the weakest Goliathspawn he saw was comparable to a Tier 4 and the strongest Goliathspawn he saw was comparable to an above-average Tier 5, he did not feel threatened by this in the slightest.
Maybe it was because of the enemies he had fought from the moment he entered the shattered dimension of the Old Ones, or maybe it was because his strength, experience, and self-confidence had improved drastically after all the enemies he fought in the shattered dimension.
Corey did not know.
However, what he did know was that as long as he did not face a true monster like Pamela who was a tier 4, 99% of the tier 4s could not faze him.
However, as he gazed at the Goliathspawns around him and Ryan after listening to Ryan's words, he sensed something, and his instincts were triggered for the briefest of moments.
'Danger?'
Corey's eyes flickered and his expression changed.
'Wait... No… It's from the Goliathspawns but it's also not from the Goliathspawns at the same time… What the hell?'
The stars of consciousness in Corey's mind blazed with burning flames as they conjured up countless hypotheses, ideas, probabilities, and thoughts as to what he felt as he gazed at the Goliathspawns.
However, even after three seconds passed, neither his stars of consciousness nor main consciousness were able to come to an answer.
This left a strange feeling in Corey's heart and mind.
Just as he was about to look away, he saw one of the Goliathspawns, a colossal alligator with an island on its back glance at him, its dark golden eyes contained an indifference that was not meant for a being of its level.
Corey had only seen and felt such indifference from two individuals he recently encountered and fought.
The Capra King and Aethara.
Corey's heart skipped a beat, and his body instantly tensed up.
However, the strange thing was that his instincts which he trusted to a ridiculous degree were not sending him warning signals as he stared at the alligator.
'What's happening? Why did it feel like a being that was similar to the Capra King or Aethara was staring at me?... I don't feel threatened by the Goliathspawn but by its gaze?... What the fuck is happening?'
An innumerable number of thoughts came and went in Corey's mind as he tried to think of what had just happened. He kept on staring at the Goliathspawn, but a second later, the Goliathspawn shifted its gaze away from him.
Corey did not blink nor breathe as his senses were wary and alert for any sudden attack. Although he did not feel threatened by the Goliathspawn, the fact that its gaze reminded him of the Capra King and Aethara made him instantly cautious.
"Hey?"
"Smile Reaper?"
"Hey!"
A shout resounded in his ears along with a shake on his shoulders which jolted him from his thoughts and surprising anxiety.
Corey looked at Ryan, and then he saw Ryan's deep frown as he stared at him.
"What's wrong with you? You spaced out."
Corey remained silent for two seconds, and then he looked at Ryan's hands that were on his shoulders.
He exhaled, and then he slowly removed Ryan's hands from his shoulders.
"Nothing is wrong with me. Continue what you were saying."
Ryan's frown deepened, and then he stared at the Goliathspawn Corey had been staring at.
"Did you feel threatened by that Goliathspawn?"
Ryan asked, but Corey gave no reply and just stared at a random rock with an indifferent expression.
Ryan glanced at him before looking back at the Goliathspawn. "You don't have to feel threatened by it. Just like I said before, the Goliathspawns are harmless. They wouldn't attack somebody unless provoked."
"In fact, in case you don't know, there are settlements on top of some Goliathspawns. That's how harmless they are… until the Song of The Queen plays that is."
Corey glanced at him, and without saying anything, he walked forward. Ryan was baffled for a moment, but then he shook his head with a sigh before walking after Corey.
He easily caught up to Corey since Corey was moving rather slowly. He glanced at Corey, and when he saw Corey's indifferent expression on his extremely handsome face, he scratched the side of his head.
"Have you heard of the Shattered Sea's history and folklore?"
Corey shook his head.
"Well, the Shattered Sea has an interesting history and folklore."
"It's said that the Shattered Sea was formed during an ancient war between two Old Ones who embodied opposing elements, one of purity and creation, and the other of corruption and destruction."
"The war ended in a stalemate, and the energies used by the Old Ones were so massive and potent that they forever altered this very part of the shattered dimension. Not only did they alter the part of the shattered dimension, their energies sealed each other in perpetual conflict which then led to the creation of the Shattered Sea."
"It is believed that at the top of the Eternal Waterfall is a fragment of the combined power of the Old Ones. It's believed that this power is capable of granting one dominion over both creation and destruction."
"Despite these tales, few who try to obtain the power at the top of the Eternal Waterfall ever return, and those that do return end up living a terrible life or they either kill themselves."
"Although this folklore is rather interesting, I believe that it's either not the truth or the whole truth."
'Why do I have a feeling that the Old Ones are much more powerful than I can ever imagine?... If two Old Ones were to have fought, I don't think this shattered dimension would still be in one piece.'
Although Corey had this thought, he did not say it out loud. Besides, his mind was on something else.
He looked at Ryan, and then he raised three of his fingers.
"I have three questions."
