Chapter 523: 522: Dangers of The Waters
"I have three questions."
Corey raised three fingers, and with a quick glance at Corey, Ryan replied.
"Ask away."
Corey lowered his fingers, and then he spoke.
"When I was flying high up in the air, you asked me if I had a death wish. What did you mean?"
"Oh, that."
Ryan glanced at the sky for a second before looking straight ahead. His lips parted open, and then he spoke.
"Flying in the Shattered Sea for more than thirty seconds is dangerous. When you fly or in your case, hover in the sky for more than thirty seconds, the Goliathspawns that reside in the depths of the Water of Purity would attack the individual."
"The longer an individual stays in the sky, the stronger and more dangerous the Goliathspawns becomes… From what I heard, the Goliathspawns might even become as strong as a Tier 6 if one stays in the air for too long."
Corey had a slightly baffled and intrigued expression after hearing Ryan's words.
"Why thirty seconds?"
This was what he was truly curious about, however, Ryan shrugged.
"I don't know."
"Hmm." Corey hummed, and a few seconds later, he asked his second question.
"Since we can't fly in the air for too long, can we walk on the water?"
Ryan paused and stared at him with a surprised expression. "You can walk on water?"
Corey tilted his head with a confused expression. "I can. Is there anything wrong with that?"
Ryan shook his head, and then he continued walking.
"There's nothing wrong with that, but the majority of Tier 2s don't know how to walk on water… Manipulating mana to such a degree that one can walk on water is not an easy feat for Mortals."
Corey glanced at Ryan, but he didn't give a reply.
"Anyway, there's a reason why it's not advisable to walk on water and why most would even advise you to fly instead of walking on the sea."
"Although this part of the Shattered Sea is called the Water of Purity, it's still fraught with dangers."
Ryan paused with a solemn expression, and Corey noticed this through his Eyes of Omniscience. He became curious.
"Because we're staying on top of a Goliathspawn, you cannot sense it, but the Water of Purity is cold. It has a strange coldness to it, and if one stands on the water for too long, the mana in their body would start to freeze but their bodies would not. One would only feel cold, but they would not freeze nor become ice blocks."
"Another thing the Water of Purity does to those that walk on it is that the longer one stays on the Water of Purity, the more one would find their movements sluggish, their energies would be sapped, and one's willpower would be immensely tested."
"Also, there is a pulling force that comes from the Water of Purity, and the longer one stands on the Water of Purity, the greater the pulling force becomes."
"However, there is a benefit to the Water of Purity that makes this place one of the most sought after danger zone despite its danger."
Ryan glanced at Corey with a smile and a raised index finger. Corey tilted his head slightly with a curious expression.
"The Water of Purity radiates a cleansing energy that forcibly expels impurities from one's body. The closer one gets to the Water of Purity, the stronger the cleansing energy."
"If you go to certain Goliathspawns or the lands outside the Shattered Sea, you'll see a lot of people hovering above the Water of Purity or standing at the edges of the Water of Purity to cleanse their bodies of impurities."
Corey's brows rose, and his eyes narrowed as he noticed something he had previously ignored when he hovered in the air.
There were a few people who were hovering above the Water of Purity. Most of them were sitting in the air in a cross-legged position, and on their exposed upper bodies was a black viscous liquid that fell into the Water of Purity, but the Water of Purity remained clear and pure despite the black viscous liquid falling into the sea.
'All of them are Tier 4s, and they are also people from outside the Underworld… There are some Tainteds among them, and most of them are old men and women… They are Harbingers.'
'There's a clear division between the Outsiders and Harbingers… They clearly don't trust one another.'
The main reason Corey had ignored the presence of so many Tier 4s and Harbingers who were comparable to Tier 4s was because they were staying close to the edge of the range of his Eyes of Omniscience.
He could see everything that was occurring around him in a three hundred meter radius through his Eyes of Omniscience, but the Outsiders and Tainteds he could see were close to the edge of his range of vision.
'I don't think I have any impurity in me since I have Celestial Mana Veins and I only obtain mana from the Infinity Crystals in me and not from the environment… But I can try it out later on regardless.'
Corey shifted his gaze back to Ryan, and Ryan continued speaking. Barely three seconds had passed as he had these thoughts.
"Although the Water of Purity has cleansing and chilling effects, the Water of Calamity is different."
"The Water of Calamity is acidic. It dissolves flesh and equipment upon contact, and even Tier 5s have to be wary of allowing the water to touch their bare flesh. As for equipment, even Violet grade equipment can be degraded if it stays too long in the water."
"The Water of Calamity also emits fumes that cause madness and hallucinations. Only those with a strong will, a proper equipment that can fight against the madness and hallucinations or prevent the fumes from entering their system, or Tier 5s and above can fight against the madness and hallucinations… Even Tier 5s have to be wary of the fumes."
"Prolonged exposure to the fumes leads to death or worse… one would transform into an abomination."
Ryan said with a solemn expression, and Corey's expression also became slightly solemn.
Corey and Ryan became silent for some seconds, and then they stopped. They had reached the edge of the island that was on top of the Elephant-like Goliathspawn they were on.
Both stared at the sea beneath them which rippled and undulated as the Elephant-like Goliathspawn walked slowly on it.
Some seconds later, Ryan spoke without looking at Corey.
"What's your third question?"
Corey glanced at him from the corner of his eyes for a few seconds, and then he spoke.
"How can I reach the top of the Eternal Waterfall?"
