Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Memories of the past
The lady sleeping on the bed was lost in a long dream, one that seemed out of reach. "Stephan, breakfast is ready," she said softly. As he emerged from the stairs, he looked so handsome in his suit. "Don't bother; I'll be eating at the company," he replied, turning away. He gave her the cold shoulder, and it stung. It had been weeks since he had been acting this way towards her. Even during their wedding night, he had left her to attend an important meeting abroad. She had felt so embarrassed and desperate, and his mother had apologized for his behavior.Stephan returned only a few days ago, but he wasn't planning to be nice to Micah. After all, he was supposed to marry his childhood friend, Genevieve. His father had opposed that marriage, threatening to disown him if he didn't marry Micah instead. "She's a good match she has a moral upbringing," his father insisted, and Stephen, filled with anger, had no choice but to complyMicah had heard of Stephan's arrival a week after he returned. He came to his parents' house, bringing gifts but never bothering to ask about her well-being. He didn't even come home he stayed with his parents as if she didn't exist.
In the Blake pavilion, a man sat on a beautifully decorated wooden chair, a few strands of grey showing in his brown hair. He held a stern expression. Nearby, a woman was talking to a muscular man. That was Stephen; he looked incredibly handsome. I knew you would definitely seal the deal," Whitney his mother, said with pride. "Yes, Mom. I even got two important partners from abroad," he replied with a smile. She was thrilled about the project Stephen had been working on; it was finally taking off.
Richard, Stephan's father, cleared his throat, and both Whitney and Stephen turned to him. "About your wife, has she heard of your arrival?" he asked.
"No, Father," Stephan answered he was displeased
"And why not? Aren't you supposed to be at home, giving her the good news? What are you doing here?"he asked.
"Look, Father, you and I both know I didn't want to marry her in the first place. It was all your idea, so stop trying to tell me what to do."
"Stephan!" Richard roared, his tone icy. Whitney tried to intervene, but Richard silenced her with a look. "Leave this instant and go home. You shouldn't bring shame upon us for not raising you properly. You're supposed to be with your wife."
Stephan's cold voice cut through the tension. "I don't care. I never acknowledged her as my wife. She forced herself into this marriage, so she can deal with it." With that, he got up and stormed out.
"You.." Richard began, pointing at him, but Stephan was already gone. Whitney followed her son, trying to appease him. Richard was furious and felt sorry for the woman named Micah. She was strong willed, but she would have to learn to tolerate his son's cold attitude.
In the Oriental Blue Bar, James looked at Stephen and asked, "Shouldn't you be at home? You just got married; spend some time with your wife."
"I don't fucking care about that damn woman," Stephen replied, grabbing a beer.
"Drink another one," Aiden chuckled. "Poor lady. I hope Stephan doesn't stay this cold toward her." He thought.
Back at home, Micah was eager to see Stephan and excitedly asked about his business trip. He walked past her as if she were invisible, heading upstairs to freshen up. Micah felt a pang of annoyance at his attitude. She went to the kitchen to continue cooking, determined to prepare something delicious for him. In her haste, she accidentally scalded her hand.
Meanwhile, Stephan was in the study room when Micah asked if he would like to join her for dinner. He refused. Each refusal deepened her sadness, and she couldn't shake the feeling that their marriage was only an obligation rather than a partnership.
Days passed by and Genevieve, a childhood friend, visited Stefan after he returned from a business trip. Although she wanted to greet him, that was a lie she had hidden motives for her visit. Dressed in a red slim fit designer dress that accentuated her curves, she took a seat in his office. They had been childhood lovers, and Genevieve wanted to see if he still had feelings for her, reminiscing about the bond they had shared as kids.
She sipped the tea that had been served and broke the silence. "How was your trip?" she asked, knowing that Stefan disliked going home and was a man of few words.
"Good," he replied, absorbed in his work.
"And your wife? How is she?" Genevieve prodded, hoping to spark a deeper conversation.
"She's fine," Stephan replied curtly.
"That's good to hear," she said, her mind racing as she contemplated her plan. Time was of the essence.
"Stephan," she called, and he looked up. "Do you remember that time when we were dating, and Grandma stopped you because you had the flu? You wanted to go out with me so badly."
Stefan's attention sharpened. "Yeah," he said, recalling the moment.
"It was a memorable day for me," she said seductively, lightly tracing the fabric of her dress. "Don't you think?"
He remained silent, seemingly unfazed.
"I just wanted to say that we can still be friends," she added, smiling brightly in an attempt to break the tension.
"Sure," he replied nonchalantly, returning to his work.
Genevieve felt a pang of disappointment but pushed it aside, determined to execute her plan before it was too late.
Meanwhile Micah prepared lunch for Stefan, hoping it would brighten his mood. She wanted to get closer to him by letting him try her delicious cooking skills. What was the way to a man's heart? It was food, she thought excitedly as she packed his meal into the lunch box. She wanted to make this marriage beautiful and long lasting, she prayed that God would help their marriage
On the other hand was Genevieve. She walked up to Stefan's table, ready to execute her plan. "What are you trying to do?" he asked, giving her a cold look. "I think you would love a massage," she said, walking to his table seductively. She tried to move closer to him, even though he maintained his icy expression. Determined, she edged nearer. He scuffed "you don't... His watch vibrated as he glanced at his watch, noting that Micah, his wife, was nearby. He allowed Genevieve to do what she wanted, aware of her motives. Genevieve was glad to have his attention as she sat on his lap and touched his face. Leaning forward, their gazes locked, and then she kissed him. Stephan wanted Micah to see what was happening. He wanted her to feel hurt and betrayed.
Arriving at the company, she met Jerry, Stefan's assistant, who took her upstairs to meet her husband. Jerry was concerned for Micah since Genevieve was also around; he hoped there wouldn't be any tension since Genevieve was a childhood friend and a woman. He was also happy that his young master had a considerate wife who prepared food for him. He just hoped that Stephan would make her happy, given that he was a cold hearted boss.
Micah thanked Jerry for escorting her to Stefan's office, as it was her first time visiting his company. She opened the door, and upon entering, she saw a woman kissing Stefan. It was Genevieve, his childhood friend. He kissed her back passionately, his gaze fixed on her as if he were mocking her. "Thud, The lunch box she was holding fell to the floor as Stefan intensified the kiss with Genevieve.
Micah held herself together, but her expression reflected her hurt and her heart was shattering. She felt like she couldn't breathe. Instantly, she walked out of the room, holding back her tears. Jerry spotted Micah coming out and wondered what had happened.
When Micah got to her car, she burst into tears. Her heart felt suffocated. Why did he do this? He didn't love her, did he? Was he always with Genevieve? Her mind was in chaos. Meanwhile, Stephan had stopped kissing Genevieve. She liked it. Five minutes earlier, Genevieve had stood up and walked toward his desk. He had the urge to stop her approach but then noticed that Micah was nearby through his phone's location tracker.
Stephan didn't like Micah he wanted her to express a little bit of sadness. So he pulled Genevieve close and kissed her. She was shocked but reciprocated. In her heart, she believed Stephan still loved her.
Genevieve had heard something drop on the floor when Stefan intensified the kiss for the person to see. He noticed the lunch box that had fallen to the floor and felt a surge of annoyance. Micah's expression reflected pain he saw her shock and how she struggled to breathe. His fists clenched. He didn't mean to hurt her, but still, his heart torn, but a part of him was indifferent.
Genevieve, feeling pleased, said coyly, "I'm so sorry. I wasn't expecting that," blushing at the same time. He could tell she was faking it. When she asked who that, he simply replied, "No one
"Okay, no one," she said, getting up,"we should continue I enjoyed it she said. she tried to be intimate again, which he shunned. Genevieve was annoyed by his actions; he had just kissed her, and now he was acting like nothing had happened.
She guessed it was his wife who had just come in, noticing the lunch box. "Why does he suddenly seem like he cares?" she thought. "You should leave," he said coldly, but she didn't want to go. His icy expression prompted her to leave the office immediately.
Stephan placed the lunch box on the table, angry with himself. Why had he done that? he wondered. He should probably check up on her he thought his conscience pricking him.
