The office was spacious with large panoramic windows. Expensive paintings by famous artists hung on the walls and detailed marble statues stood near the entrance.

In the centre of the office was a luxurious desk made of bokota, the most expensive American wood. Its price equated to thirty-three thousand dollars a foot. On the edges of the desk, pyramids of documents were stacked neatly. Tomorrow these documents would be taken by the secretary and handed over to the department heads of the huge construction corporation.

Behind the desk sat a white-haired girl. One of her hands held a lighted, thick Cuban cigarette, and the other was slowly tapping her fingers on the table. The face of the office hostess was unusually grim.

Sarah adjusted her glasses and cast a wary glance at her boss. Mrs Kingpin was acting strangely today, though the oddities had been there since yesterday. As her right hand and most trusted person, Sarah knew that Vanessa had been attacked yesterday by unknown people. They were untraceable. After the attack, the strange behaviour of the mistress began.

Vanessa returned to the office alone and locked herself in her office without saying anything to the others. Sarah had to organise punishment squads and punish those who were involved in the recent attack. The main organisers were not found, but all the informer rats involved were brutally murdered.

The next morning Vanessa came out of her office with a small smile on her face and a burning look in her eyes. This was the first time Sara had seen such a Mistress. Kingpin never showed her emotions in front of anyone and always kept a cold and detached face. Therefore, such behaviour of the Mistress seemed too strange for Sarah, her most faithful assistant.

The strange behaviour continued throughout the day. In the morning Vanessa decided to hold a surprise inspection of the departments of her construction corporation and observe the work. During the inspection, she even praised a few particularly hard-working employees, surprising not only Sara now, but the others as well.

Until that day, Fisk had been nothing but a terror to the employees of the corporation, her appearance always threatening to get someone fired. This was the first time the company CEO had shown up just to praise someone.

After inspecting all the departments, Vanessa returned to her office. Worried for her mistress, Sara followed her.

In the office Kingpin sat down at her workplace and began to work, going through the company reports, signing documents... Her behaviour seemed normal, usual for her, but Sarah was confused by the small smile on her boss's lips. It seemed that something so good had happened that even Vanessa's face, icy for years, was able to melt.

And why didn't Sara know anything about it? Could such a good event have bypassed Mistress' right hand? The event that pleased Mistress had to be very loud and noticeable, it had to be something global, the scale of an entire country!

By lunchtime, Vanessa had finished sorting through the papers and looked at the wall clock in the study. Her lips tightened, she mumbled something to herself and got up from her chair and walked to the window. Sarah suggested that she go to the main office where Kingpin had some unresolved matters of her darker side of life waiting for her, but the girl abruptly declined.

Time passed slowly, approaching evening. The smile had fallen off Fisk, her expression returning to its former coldly aloof one. You could even tell that Vanessa was much darker than usual.

- Sarah, what time is it? - Kingpin asked, tapping her fingers irritably on the table. Her face was tilted downwards, apparently she was in deep thought.

- It's five minutes to nine," Sarah looked at the clock on the wall. Even without the clock, it was easy to tell from the setting sun outside that the time was approaching evening and transitioning smoothly into night.

Vanessa curled her lips in annoyance and leaned back in her chair, placing her long straight legs in high quality stockings on the table.

- Mistress, are you expecting someone? - Sarah smiled at the hunch that had come to her and dared to ask Fisk.

- Who...? - Vanessa hesitated, her toes clenching and unclenching several times. The confusing events of last night flew through her mind.

She had arrived at the Stark Expo last night to look out for a few hopeful companies. It was a common practice for a girl to first identify a target in the form of a successful start-up company and then take it over, using not quite legal actions. Going round the whole exhibition, Vanessa had identified several interesting companies. Now she had a shortage of quality firearms, the illegal deals with Obadiah were over, she needed to find a new supplier. She put a couple of quality firearms companies and a few start-up rival companies in the construction business on her list of targets to take over.

Convinced she had nothing more to do at the trade show, Fisk left and texted her driver to pick her up. The driver did not respond to messages. Already at that moment Vanessa suspected something and decided to walk to a deserted park to wait for another car.

She found the most deserted and inconspicuous place. It was only after five minutes of waiting that Kingpin noticed a man sitting on a bench in the shade. She couldn't see his face, and she didn't need to.

He was probably one of those men that rich ladies kept with them for bedding. There were plenty of such men at the exhibition and while Vanessa was walking around the exhibition, a bunch of them wanted to make conversation with her. In response, she only gave them a scornful look. Such a look was enough to make them tuck their tails and run away from her in fear.

Finishing her cigarette, Vanessa saw a message from the other driver. He was on his way to the exhibition and would soon pick her up. Then, with her side vision, she noticed a large shadow coming towards her. It was a man sitting on a bench. He wrapped his arms around her back and threw her to the ground. Fisk's rage surged inside her, she didn't feel the impact of the fall, the man extinguished it with his hands, but the girl remained still outraged and wanted to wring his neck. She had already injected an experimental drug into her body, which she had got from a mothballed Nazi laboratory from the Second World War. After the injection procedure, her strength and agility surged beyond peak human capabilities. Vanessa ran tests after the transformation. Her new body could safely withstand pistol shots, and her arms could bend metal beams as if they were jelly.

This improvement in her body didn't affect Fisk's caution, she realised that for every action there was a counter to it. So before going to the exhibition, she put on her bulletproof suit and was ready for any unforeseen situations.

The girl's hands were already reaching for the neck of the man, but then she heard a distant pop and a loud bang. Then blood spurted from the man's clothes, pouring down Vanessa's stomach and chest.

She instantly realised what had happened and decided to give her saviour a glare. Kingpin was not a villain, she responded to good with good and responded to evil with evil. In her mind she immediately made a decision to repay her saviour later and for that Vanessa needed to see his face.

When she looked into his face, their eyes met. Fisk instantly recognised the man who had saved her as the mercenary who had defied her. His face was too handsome and exotic to be recognisable. White hair, a straight nose, and skin as white as hers. It was as if this man was made in her likeness, only their eyes were different.

Looking at the man gave Vanessa an unfamiliar warmth in her body. She couldn't immediately accept the new feelings that came over her. So she treated the mercenary who had caused their appearance with the utmost coldness and caution.

He had taken her out from under sniper fire and destroyed the second group of fighters, and he had done all this for her? The girl he'd met for the first time. Warmth was spreading through Fisk's body in new and renewed waves with each passing second.

When he pressed her against the tree, annoyed by her cold words and put his hand next to her face. Vanessa's body was covered in a wave of pleasant goosebumps. Somewhere in her subconscious she realised that just a little more and her cold mask would crack, just a little more and she would surrender.

The queen of the entire underground American world, who had wrested the title of Kingpin from her father and ruined the fates of tens of thousands of people with her own hands, just couldn't stand it and shamefully ran away. She tried to save her face in front of her saviour and succeeded.

Before leaving, she demanded money from him and threw him a business card of her construction corporation. She didn't need the money, she had plenty, she just wanted to meet him one more time to make sure. To be sure of the feelings she had for him that night.

- I'm waiting for someone. He made me experience emotions that are unusual for me, but apparently he's not coming," Vanessa finished in a sombre voice and took a drag on her cigar.

- Madam, we can deliver this man to you. He could be an FBI or CIA agent, or even the President himself! Just give us an order and tomorrow morning this man will be in front of you, obediently following your words and licking your feet! - Sarah jumped up from her seat.

- 'You always know how to choose your words Sarah,' Kingpin removed her feet from the table and glanced at the time. - But you don't have to do that. I think I'll feel better this way.
