Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Future Master Assassin, a Crybaby

Reuben was just an orphan kid, he never knew his parents. He ran from the orphanage 2 years ago when he was four since older orphans tend to pick on him.

He was brave and courageous, and was willing to grit his teeth to survive.

Because of this, Ferigo from the Thieves Den saw a potential in him and decided to take him in.

The bald kid never saw any of the thieves as his family. Yes... they took him in, but sooner or later, he was going to ditch them when he grows up a tiny bit.

Today though, he had a rough and weird time.

He was just lurking with the other kids in the alleys, trying to find a rich victim to nab some coin from their purses. However, just as he was going to set off towards the streets, he saw two blond boys younger than him.

One seemed to be easily scared, and the other one gave off a confidence vibe. 'They're probably rich trying to look poor...'

They did look poor, aside from the black pants and black sandals the boy in the front was wearing... their upper-wear were tattered.

'Still, I can probably make coin or two from these dimwits.'

The other one was scared so he ran off, the boy in the front though? 'Flicking a coin like nothing ey? Let's bring him to the den, we can probably ransom him.'

Minutes later as they arrived at the front of the den, they had a small conversation that made Reuben hostile.

Reuben said and then continued to walk, "You shouldn't give your name carelessly."

"I know," the blond boy replied, "It's corny for you to say that when you're leading me into a thieves den..."

Reuben's eyes widened making him unsheathe his dagger fast and twirled, aiming to slash the blonde's face.

"Oh my... you could've damaged the face that could match Apollo's or Hermes'."

"C-Curses..." Reuben gritted his teeth as he immediately turned around and decided to run towards the door. 'This blonde's dangerous!'

He dashed towards the door but he could only grit his teeth as his collar got yanked away, throwing him from the elevated ground terrace towards the ground.

'Sh-Shite, I can't breathe!'

"You intended to tell your smelly-ass mates that I have information of your base?" The blond boy walked towards Reuben as he was trying to gather his breath.

"I thought we were friends... I even gave you ONE shilling."

Finally being able to breathe albeit a little, Reuben grit his teeth and courageously held his dagger/knife. 'N-No, I cant be beaten by some tiny punk!'

The blond boy then walked towards Reuben and disarms him, kicking the knife away. 'What? How the he-'

"It seems I've found my second disciple."

"Wha-?" Was the only thing that Reuben could master before everything went black.

---

Groaning from the pain on his shoulder, Reuben woke up to a bunch of scream.

'H-Huh?'

Deciding not to alert anybody, Reuben opened his eyes slowly.

'What the...' He could see the men within the Thieves Den dead, their bodies scattered around as the blond boy threw a what seemed to be a blade towards the last thief's heel.

"AHHH!"

The thief didn't bother trying to tend to his heel and began to crawl as fast as he could and tried to open the window.

The blond boy dashed behind the thief and immediately slapped the thief's right ear.

From Reuben's perspective, he could see the thief's ears leaking blood.

'What in the nine hells is happening!?' Reuben could only gasp internally, then pretending to be asleep. 'I should get out of here, ALIVE!'

"You can stop acting now."

'Ah shite...'

"Gather all their items and wait for me."

'Eternal damnation!' Reuben thought as he opened his eyes to see a cold piercing blue eyes staring at him.

"You know what will happen if you run away, right?"

"Y-YES!" Reuben exclaimed and immediately gathered the items of the thieves' dead bodies.

---

Minutes passed as Reuben gathered every item he could see, he heard a bunch of screaming from upstairs. The screams consisted of grown men, then a loud bang could be heard. Regardless, Reuben could only think something that was screaming in his head.

'Who in the world is that blond kid!?'

'I've been roaming around Bristol, mastering the alleyways and got information on most people... I've never seen that kid from anywhere!'

As Reuben was lost in his own thoughts, he widened his eyes as he saw the blond kid from his peripheral vision.

'I didn't even notice him...'

Quickly turning his head, the coldness emitting from the blonde's eyes was now gone.

"Umm..."

"Turn around."

"Y-Yes..." Reuben didn't even question nor hesitate and just did what he was told.

"The name's Alaric," The blond boy talked making Reuben sigh.

'So he lied about his name, of course.'

"You're Reuben right?" Alaric questioned as he immediately walked towards the front door, "I heard it from these guys."

"Yes," Reuben nodded as he turned to see Alaric walking, he then glanced on his left to see that all the clothse, weapons, and coins disappeared. 'Where did they go?'

"Good, now then," Alaric replied and turned his head to look at Reuben, "Follow me, my disciple."

---

Alaric and Reuben were now walking towards the alleys as the latter had questions in his head.

'Disciple? What does he mean?'

'Well... better not make him angry or he'll kill me like how killed Ferigo and his men.'

Alaric didn't need to look to see Reuben's face that was filled with curiousity, "You can ask me anything, don't be afraid."

Treating this as a green light, Reuben fired away.

"What do you mean by disciple?"

"Are you some kind of priest from a local church? That seems to be impossible, you're a child."

"Are you rich?"

"How... How did you do it? How were you able to move so fast?"

"Aren't you afraid of killing?"

Alaric couldn't help but chuckle. However, they were good questions to ask, especially if one is so young. "Slow down... what I mean by disciple is just that, I'll teach you to move like me, how to fight."

"And no, I'm not a priest. Are you blind? As you said, it's impossible. I'm just someone who wants to get rich and strong, just like you."

"Rich and strong..." Reuben repeated, "Yes... I could get rich and strong if I'm able fight like you."

"Yes and no," Alaric made a left in the alley with Reuben still following him. "Just because I'm able to fight like I do, doesn't necessarily mean I'll get rich."

Confused, Reuben's eyebrow raised, "What do you mean?"

"You'll get it soon enough," Alaric replied as he smirked, "And... I'm going to be rich, I just need few disciples like you to leave my legacy upon..." 'Nah, I just need someone to do the menial tasks if need be.'

"Oh, speaking of disciples..." Reuben then saw another blond kid trying to navigate the alleys, looking lost. "Umm... isn't that your brother?"

"Brother? Brat... he ain't my brother," Alaric chuckled as he approached Edward, "That's my cousin."

Edward was looking everywhere, scared that he's lost and wouldn't be able to go back to the house they crashed in.

"Man... you look lost."

Looking behind, his eyes began to redden as he saw his cousin Alaric.

"'Laric!" Edward's tears were now threatening to fall.

Alaric could only sigh while Reuben who was behind him raised a brow.

'Damn, what a sight... future Master Assassin, a crybaby.'
