Chapter 54: The Leak
Emily sat at her desk, her fingers hovering over her keyboard. The pressure from her editor weighed heavily on her shoulders Karen wanted the final piece on Blackwood Enterprises, and she wanted it now. But after everything with Julian, Emily's confidence in the story was crumbling.
Her investigation had revealed plenty shady deals, corporate cover-ups but Julian's recent promises to change confused her. Was she doing the right thing by exposing him? Could a man like Julian Blackwood truly turn his back on the ruthless practices that built his empire?
Her phone buzzed. A new email. Anonymous Source: Urgent Information on Blackwood Enterprises.
Frowning, she clicked it open. Attached were confidential documents contracts, financial records evidence of a cover-up from years ago. But as she skimmed the details, a chill ran down her spine. These documents weren't part of her investigation. Someone else was feeding her information but why?
"Who sent this?" she muttered, scanning the metadata. No clues. No trace. But one thing was clear this was a deliberate move to destroy Julian.
Her heart pounded as she considered her next step. She could submit the evidence, publish the article, and watch Julian's empire burn. It was the story of her career. But would it destroy everything else in the process?
Meanwhile, Julian paced his office, tension coiling in his chest. Something felt wrong. Marcus had been too quiet lately a silence Julian had learned to distrust. His instincts screamed that a storm was coming.
His thoughts were interrupted by his assistant. "Mr. Blackwood, we have a problem," she said, handing him a tablet.
On the screen was a breaking news headline: "Whistleblower Claims Blackwood Enterprises Involved in Decade-Long Cover-Up."
Julian's blood turned cold. Someone was trying to destroy him. And there was only one person he suspected could pull it off Marcus.
But the question haunted him how much did Emily know? And was she the one who pulled the trigger?
